what do u mean?

When programming in low level languages, like Assembly, its different for Macs.

^ don’t MACs use the same instruction set architecture as Windows PCs?

Portability is possible if the Mac is using x86 too, but not on G5s.

And when you program in Assembly, you make a load of OS calls too, the procedure is different in each OS.

http://www.dribin.org/dave/blog/archives/2006/12/03/win_asm_os_x/

lol i mean your english sounds good on here. eh, maybe not? haha record yourself talking and check it out

where in india are u from, blue?

Haha. Definitely not. I’m not recording. That would be insanely embarrassing. <_<

I’m from New Delhi. =)

haha oh thats cool!
i wish i was fluent in hindi lol

I’m not fluent in Hindi either. I can sort of speak it (well, I can get my point across), but I can barely write it.

blue_box, Portability is a different issue. Portability of assembly code from one Windows PC to another Windows PC is also a non trivial issue.

What I was trying to ask was why is it difficult to write assembly code for MAC compared to PC. I think we can agree to disagree here. BTW, I make a living writing assembly code.

Ah, I don’t no nuts about Assembly, I’m just parroting what I’ve learnt from talking to other asm programmers. Difficult was the wrong word. Its probably as easy/tough as writing for Win PCs, but its different, and I’m not going to learn two ‘variants’ for the heck of it.
(Variants is in ‘quotes’ because I’m not sure what the actual word is)

i write assembly code in a limited way for numerically intensive portions of the program when i m convinced that i can do a better job than the compiler. there is no reason to make os calls within these assembly code snippets. the kind of code u showed is usually associated with device drivers and i generally stay away from such activities.

it is kind of fun writing code in assembly - u really get a much more intimate understanding of underlying cpu architecture. it is unfortunate that most CS undergraduate programs don’t include or require a assembly language programming course.

i find comp. eng. much more exciting than comp. science.

x___x

And I was planning a BS + MS in Comp Science.

haha blue box, seriously?

i bet you can speak wayy better than i can.
i still mix up my a’s and i’s

Oh, fellow CS brethren…

When I woke up, I said “gm in am!” to my mom… She didn’t understand! (Good morning in am/ geometric mean in arithmetic mean ok sorry for the lamenesss)

I just couldn’t afford a mac !
I started of with a 600$ budget and ended up buying a 950$ laptop !!!
And I love my 14 inch Dell the 16 was huge for me + it was more expensive ;)
