The Indian Thread (TiT) #18

if i tell you id have to kill you ;)

+the diff betwn the dell’s price is only 1000inr, so better buying it here -

^ how much do u have to pay sw such as ms office?

be careful about bringing pirated sw. u can get into serious trouble.

@ans- Oh well… :
yeah, always buy genuine Microsoft products

uh i don’t think you will get into any trouble…talk about paranoia.

ansrox - could have gotten a Macbook for $950 :stuck_out_tongue: Education discounts etc

Pirated software is easier to track down in the US. Much, much easier.

pirated software?! lol seriously, wth

imho, use of pirated software is a reflection of one’s culture.

Blue_box : They have better things to do.

I’m not advocating using it but they are not going to track you down.

@Tippu: LOL
You’re funny.

Dell Lightning will be my next mobile
Yay i got my bb yesterday so i’m officially bbm :stuck_out_tongue:
Well as the piracy issue is up i indeed think it is cool as you can wear eyepatches and you also get to use facebook in pirate english as an added advantage

^ha ha

You’d be surprised. Something as common as downloading movies via torrents has now led to:
[‘Hurt Locker’ downloaders, you’ve been sued | Media Maverick - CNET News](<a href=“http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-20006314-261.html]'Hurt”>http://news.cnet.com/8301-31001_3-20006314-261.html)
There’s no safety in numbers anymore. And something that would get an ordinary US citizen a warning, can get you deported if you’re on a student visa.

^there are always better ways to do things connect to a couple of proxies go to anonymizer.ru visit the site from there and download*

*I in no way endorse or encourage software piracy(Capt. Jack Sparrow is an entirely diffrent issue) i was just saying there is a way out for everything and as a CEH i just wanted well you can say show off

People i would now really seriously say the problem of piracy is really rampant in India and as a strong advocate of FOSS i would like to point out instead of indulging in piracy use open source alternatives, like using linux instead of windows, openoffice instead of ms office, gimp instead of photoshop well the list is endless and also equally or rather more popular is piracy of songs and movies i strongly recommend you buy the music or the movie, consider the cost not as a burden but rather a tribute to the efforts of the artists. Or try free music, yes there is loads of it available, for example popular band indian ocean are planning to release their next album for free. Those of who feel the softwares and games are overpriced try coding one and you’ll realise the effort and money that goes into it, dont even think about an operating system its code possibly runs into possibly millions of lines of code. So do your bit by buying only orignal softwares, games, movies, music and show your gratitude to the developers. Also i would like to boo to the people such as the advertisers who promote such web sites.

^ yes!!! i totally agree with u nomad!

Well, the anti-piracy laws in India are not properly implemented.

Both my schools use pirated versions of Windows, Office, etc.

Trust me, there is no one I know who does not torrent songs, movies and software.

See, if they want to turn us into legal software users, they HAVE TO lower the price of the software! I mean, who the hell in their right mind is going to pay Rs. 15,000 for Windows 7 Home Premium?
No, tell me.

Price it around Rs. 5000 or something and trust me, I’m sure they’ll have a larger number of takers.

I’m going to pay the price for Win7, because I’m not risking my college education over Rs. 15,000.

n0mad: Anonymizer is of no use for stuff that’s already downloaded. I was merely giving an example. People assume that because everyone downloads illegally, they’re safe. This is no longer true.

aniruddh thats not the price for home premium its for the ultimate edition. Thats what i’m trying to say there are versions of windows 7 priced around 5000 mark, the home basic costs 5899 the home premium costs 6799 the ultimate costs 11799 plus if you are upgrading from xp or vista home premium costs 4500. Thats what i was trying to say in my earlier post, if you dont want to buy use free and open source alternatives(FOSS). For example using popular linux distros like ubuntu or fedora instead of windows at schools and offices is feasible and also the newer versions of these are user friendly. As for microsoft office openoffice is the best alternative. And crying about poor law implementation is really lame, tell me dont you ever indulge in piracy yourself? Or if not have you ever even tried to tell your school to stop piracy? What we lack is awareness there are many equal alternatives to these popular paid softwares all you have to do is look and have a desire to stop piracy.

blue box what i was trying to say is that, that way they wont be able to track that you have downloaded it so they wont know you are in posession of pirated stuff

Ah no, two different things here. The downloading thing is different. That just tracks whether you’ve downloaded the software and doesn’t check to see if you used it or not.
USING pirated software and connecting to college networks, etc. is different. Your OS is visible, and can easily be checked to see if its cracked or not. I know my college checks for that. In India, that would be fine. No one cares. The situation is different in the US.
