The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

If this doesn’t work I will try again when I get home. I have not done this from my phone. It feels awkward

Anyone have anything to say about “Lazy Man’s Portolios” as an easy way to invest for those of us who don’t want to agonize about investments? Just curious as the simplicity appeals to me. We have done awfully over the years with the stock market.

I’d prefer some kind of moving average approach.

There are a bunch of ideas for trading at [The dk Report - David Kneupper - Public ChartList - StockCharts.com](Public ChartLists | StockCharts.com) though it takes some effort to learn about technical indicators. One could also just use IBD’s buy/sell indicators. These systems typically work well in trending markets and not so well in sideways markets.

My personal feeling is that there is no set it and forget it investments unless you happen to hit a real winner of a company.

Igloo, I think you need to log in to FB to access that link and if that’s a FB group one needs to join that group. Which Apple FB group are you talking about and is it an open or closed group?

Himom, the lazy portfolios are fine.

You will end up with a performance very similar to the market. Tiny bit worse because of fees. Vanguard fees are pretty low. If the stock market goes down, you still lose.

You can see from this chart, the total market etf, the vti, was crushed in 2008 and early 2009.

Krlilies, It’s a closed group. How about this link,

https://www.facebook.com/groups/AppleTraders/members/

It should show an email address to ask to join.

Yes, I see the group now Igloo.

Have fun. It’s been fascinating to watch them predict the closing value within a few cents. We’ll see if it continues.

Thanks for these suggestions! We are really tired of being slammed in the market but don’t feel like buying real estate and dealing with all it entails at this point. Maybe I’ll talk to my brothers. One is heavily into real estate & the other is a great market investor.

HImom, I’m sorry to hear you’re being slammed. Just buy low, sell high. Look at the charts.

^^Ha, you make it sound so easy, Krlilies. I seem to like doing the opposite, and am quite good at buying high and selling low.

busdriver, you need a time machine!

If only, Iglooo!!

We’re a good fit then busdriver. You sell low, I buy low. I sell high you buy high. :)

Wait a minute…that’s not working for me!! Though I’m glad you benefit.

Is it time to fad a little bit of FB right before the big announcement tomorrow? Or at least write a few covered calls?

How about a collar? Buy puts and sell calls…

Or just buy the 30 or 31 puts or 32 puts and you keep most of the upside?

You bought fb… Nice.

A collar is a good idea, but I chickened out. I am out of FB. It has gone up too much too fast and I have to take a few profits. If the big announcement tomorrow is actually big, then I will have lost out bit. But if the big announcement is boring, I will re-buy at a lower price.

Ok…great job.
