I guess the retail worker is in trouble.

“I’m pretty sure you’re talking about a stable value fund where my 401k cash is parked right now”

Krlilies, I thought so at first when I looked at it, but yours is the Retirement Savings Trust V, and mine is just the Retirement Savings Trust. They look similar. This seems to be something new for my companies available options. When I tried to look up my fund under the generic Vanguard website, it had no info that I could find on it. I can only view the info when I log on to my account.

"The rest of it, Mr. Harvey said, is that investors themselves move their money in and out of the market at the wrong times.

They get excited or they panic, he added. And they hurt themselves."

That’s why I’m trying to stay away from trading stocks. We aren’t willing to do much research, and we get overcome by fear or worry that we’re missing the boat. If we could just continue to dollar cost average, we would have done far better over the long run. I’m sure the professional investor can do quite well with market timing, but for the rest of us, we probably just hurt ourselves trying to guess.

I’m just going to try to keep the ratios of stock/bond funds at what they ought to be.

Hey thanks, krlilies! I was trying to find a general link I could send to my parents, as I didn’t want to send the link from my personal account. I appreciate that.

Everybody is making money on that dxj trade but me. Ok I make peanuts. I told a friend who told a friend…

I sold one aapl put today. Just one. Not as good as yours.

Edit: you are welcome.

It’s annual return has averaged 6.something% over the last 17 years.

Do you consider that incredibly bad?

Magellan is worse, the magic ran out a long time ago.

I am using the numbers I was given…

Did that growth and income fund really make 6 percent a year?

I guess so…I am not going to look that hard…I really don’t give a s…

I read an article from a few days ago (it was in my reading queue) on oil imports and it looks like we imported a lot more Saudi oil in 2012 than we did in the four or five years before that. I’m a bit surprised at that given that gasoline sales are declining and the availability of oil from shale in North Dakota and Texas.

The article indicated that our shale oil is light crude (which is easier to refine and usually more expensive), while Saudi oil is heavy crude but we (the US) has a bunch of refineries set up to refine heavy crude. My guess is that the heavy crude sells at a discount so it may be that refiners that can do heavy crude prefer it because it is cheaper. Another source of heavy is Venezuela. Canadian shale is apparently heavy crude too. So it appears that we are still importing a lot of oil because the price is cheaper for refiners. Maybe we’re exporting the excess light crude?

One of Warren Buffet’s railroads is starting to experiment with NG-powered locomotives. I think that trains use up a considerable amount of diesel so this could keep a lid on crude prices in the US.

“BNSF claim that the motivation came from the fact that LNG emits far fewer greenhouse gases than diesel; although I imagine that being 88% cheaper than diesel also hangs in LNG’s favour.”

[Boston Booms as Workers Say No to Suburbs: Real Estate - Businessweek](<a href=“Bloomberg - Are you a robot?”>Bloomberg - Are you a robot?)

Boston’s real estate market, often overshadowed by the skyscrapers of New York and government-fueled growth in Washington, is seeing a boom in construction as developers financed with cheap debt seek to profit from a growing workforce of educated young adults and strength in the technology and life-sciences industries. The office-vacancy rate is among the lowest of major U.S. markets and tenants are occupying new space at almost triple the national average.

My kids want to live in cities. How is public education in Boston?

It’s a problem. Kids out of college like living in Boston but I think that they either panic or move to the suburbs when they start thinking about kids.

“The number of positions waiting to be filled climbed by 81,000 to 3.69 million from a revised 3.61 million the prior month, the Labor Department said today in Washington. Hiring also picked up while firings slowed.”

Yeah, I know. I have two sisters there. One moved to the suburbs, the other uses private schools.
