Wow! 3% per month = 36% per year! Sure would like to get that rate of return on my investment. Does that mean Mexicans will have to do business at more different banks so no accounts go over $15,000? That’s a pretty low threshold!

Himom, deposits via electronic transfers and checks are excluded from the IDE tax. The purpose, I think, in taxing cash deposits is to decrease the size of the informal economy.

That still seems pretty steep though, especially as some business may mostly be in cash, like toss selling to tourists, not at 5 star hotels.

On hgt, is this the revenue hit that you are talking about?

Yeah…

Nice link EMM1.

Stock market has already rallied off its lows of last night.

Thanks for that link. I read the article from home. That’s pretty interesting stuff on the issue but I’d still need to reacquaint myself with the fundamentals of the business and that means reading earnings reports for several years - something that I like to do with a lot of peace and quiet.

So I guess it is not the end of the world… yet? How bout them AAPLs ?

AAPL up, GOOG down. Who would have thought?

I sold a couple of more puts in aapl today. I wish I bought the stock instead, but I guess I might not do that right now.

I am short puts in both aapl and goog. I am an equal opportunity put seller. :)

One thing I like about what Cyprus proposed is they actually state they are taking from depositers, savers, and giving the money to the banks.

We do the same thing in the USA and the bankers that got the economy into trouble make millions and millions. The bankers are some of the highest paid people in the country. I can barely look at Jaime Dimon these days. Does he believe his own bs?

I think if this was written as a piece of fiction, people would not buy the book because this is preposterous.

[The Great Cyprus Bank Robbery by Financial Terrorists - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)!

“The Great Cyprus Bank Robbery by Financial Terrorists”

The language is a little strong - this is by a guy in Cyprus.

Though I fear bad things for Europe from this, I think a byproduct for the short term at least would be more money flowing into US investments. While the markets should get hit by the negative sentiment, I expect the US dollar and the US markets to be more of a safe haven than before.

Same with Canada, Australia, Singapore and other relatively stable countries. Gold is up only modestly right now and the $HUI isn’t up much at all. It appears that the world markets don’t consider this a crisis at this time.

BCEagle91, I love that guy. He is fantastic.

You probably knew that would be my take.

I have been known to say a few of those words myself. Lol.

Thanks for the video.

The volatility is crushed in goog. Wth? Stock is down. Many of the otm puts are down.

I wonder if Cyprus will eliminate the tax on insured deposits? What happens if the Russians pull their money out of Cyprus?

I am glad I am not poor or lower middle class…they just get screwed and screwed…

The 50-DMA looks like a good place to go long on GOOG for a trade.

[GOOG - SharpCharts Workbench - StockCharts.com](GOOG | SharpCharts | StockCharts.com)

The Cypriot government’s latest proposal is a tax-free threshold of €20,000.

The guy in BCE’s video link sounds like Santelli sans the white board and marker.

Santelli looks like a 2 year old kid sitting on a toilet who is having trouble pooping. Watch Santelli without the sound on…

Santelli and the video guy have different agendas.

I see a little support at the 50 day in goog…

I don’t have a problem until goog hits a lower price than 750 ish…

Thanks for the chart.

The Russians are pretty unhappy over this - I wonder if they’ll increase NG and Oil prices to the Eurozone to compensate. It appears that Russia could damage the rescue efforts if their depositors pulled all of their money out of Cypriot banks due to this move. That money would then look for a new home.
