They report earnings next week and I think that everyone is expecting problems. Intel reported last night - not a very good report but not as worse as it could have been. Intel is predicting a second-half recovery. I personally don’t buy their scenario for a second-half recovery. They are counting on a lot of sales and replacements from Haswell. It’s great tech but people don’t need it. It’s in the nice-to-have category. It looks like Intel will be pushing more low-priced stuff - they’re going to try to get designs for Bay Trail (Atom) around $200 and Ultrabooks in the $600 range. The problem is that the cheap stuff - feels - cheap and I don’t know that consumers will be running out to buy the stuff. I certainly don’t feel the need to buy a PC anytime soon. It’s a want; definitely not a need.

As per Barron’s blog.

Also… Aapl is having China problems.
Tablet prices are dropping. Are the cheaper tablets better than aapl’s? No…
But the cheaper tablets are going to cut opportunities for aapl.

There was an article today about 65 dollar tablets. Not as cheap as frisbees…but getting closer.

Spy broke 155…

Tough day for some of these banks too.

On a happy note on my charts only ALKS is up 10%. Unfortunately, I wasn’t in it to sell it today.

There are cheap tablets for about $100. They are terrible - I don’t think that folks in the US would use them. But it’s better than nothing if that’s all that you can afford.

BTW, INTC cut capex spending by $1 billion. That will send a ripple through the Semi Equipment chain. Will other foundries follow suit?

^^^I kind of feel the white-box tablets is like buying my aviators at a 99 cents store instead of Ray-ban. It’ll last only for a few minutes because the fit isn’t good and the quality is shoddy.

Support may be an issue too. I have a Nexus 7 which is a pretty cheap tablet in the US at $200 but Google has been great with releasing updated versions for the device. There are lots of companies out there that don’t do updates on devices so you may be stuck at an old version. The companies don’t get any money for doing the updates so they really don’t have an incentive to do so - rather, they make money when you buy a new device so their incentive is for you to get a new device which is a disincentive to support the old device.

I have not heard of Nenner before. Is he reliable?

Yes. 100 percent.

dstark is joking of course. Contrary to what he says here, he has been pretty bearish for a long time. I don’t trust anybody who tries to give such detailed dates and price for the market to do things.

I should point out that I bought dia today and made money - $7

$7 is $7. You did much better than John Paulson.

I can’t believe I argue with somebody about free markets who asks if Nenner is reliable. I’m bad.

I have never heard of Nenner before. What does not knowing Nenner have to do with free markets? I have degrees in economics. I don’t have degrees in Nenner.

Razorsharp, who is reliable?

I lean towards Investors Business Daily for the overall market calls. They are not always right but they seem more rational than others.

I like Mark Arbiter at S&P for technical calls. I also like BCEagle91’s guy Leavitt brothers. I like Carter Worth but he isn’t as accurate sometimes. I do my own analysis with stock software and hope I’m right. And of course I listen to dstark even though he has no understanding whatsoever of economics and politics. :)

Yeah… Lol
