The investment..speculation, out right gambling thread

I like lemonade.

I just think all the shenanigans the banks pull has a bigger impact than lemonade even at 4 bucks a cup.

Actually, I know.

Jcp…I need the stock to drop .35 so I can get filled.
Doesn’t look like it is going to happen.

Sold an aapl 5/3 400 put = 1.36 and rolled out the qcom 4/26 62.5 puts to 5/3 62.5 puts for another .41 which lowers my breakeven on qcom to 61.61.

Ok I just looked at qcom… I guess qcom is not going to close at the strike… Well another .41 potentially in your pocket.

razor, you could get some of those portable drink flavorers. I usually bring an empty Gatorade bottle with me when I fly, since occasionally the TSA will have a bug up their butt about carrying an empty bottle through security. I keep a thing or two of Crystal Light Lemonade in case I wind up at an airport with terrible tasting water I need to mask a bit.

That’s an extremely good idea. I just have to remember to bring the bottle drink packages.

Coinstar is changing its name to Outerwall. What a stupid name.

2.5 percent GDP maybe isn’t great, but it ain’t a recession.

Price target on AAPL is $427 for me - 50% Fibonacci Retracement level. New support around $417.20 - 38.2% Fibonaccie Retracement level. If we hold above, I’ll put a stop just below that around $416.50.

So where is aapl going to close?

If i am long the 410-415-420 butterfly I would prefer 415 and below 410 or above 420 the butterfly is worthless…

However, if I am long the 415-420-425 butterfly I prefer the stock closing at 420. Below 415 and above 425 the butterfly is worthless.

Of course aapl does not have to close at a strike.

I sold some 380 aapl puts that expire next week. I have no idea how I got those off.

I have no idea why jcp just took off…

I haven’t looked at this in detail or put it through a calculator with implied volatility but casually, my 410 - 510 - 610 butterfly is behaving a bit different than I would have expected. I have gains in the 410 calls (expected), the 510 calls that I’m short (?) and a small loss in the 610 calls that I’m long (?)

I don’t really think in terms of where it’s going to close. It’s broken out and unless it drops a lot in the next 24 minutes, I’m not terribly concerned about it. The breakout should bring in more swing-traders on Monday. It may or may not be a coincidence that GOOG tanked yesterday and today. Something to do with European regulators I think - it doesn’t benefit AAPL at all but I think that it’s just part of the moneyflow trade back and forth between the two companies.

I don’t understand the butterfly stuff.

The volatility must have dropped in aapl, doct. Which makes sense…earnings are out…people are calming down…

BCEagle91, you don’t have to be concerned with the butterflies. Just do what you are doing.

The value of these butterflies can change dramatically in the last minute or two today. Since I do trade them occasionally and doct is long one…it is just fun to watch the close.

I sold the may 15 puts in jcp for .06 that expire next week.

I won’t get rich on those. I just sold 20. :)

I wanted to do something.

In my simple minded way, I look at my butterfly as long the call spread 410 - 510 and short the call spread 510 - 610. For me its a bet that by October, the stock is going to be between 431 and 510 (hopefully not too much above 510)

Looks like AAPL closed right around the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement level. Fine with me. I had a great week going into today and gave back about a quarter of it intraday and overall closed down about $1K today. So things could have been worse. Some trader friends of mine called a local top yesterday - probably should have listened to them.

Don’t worry about that the stock staying below 510…

The profits are the same whether the stock is 50 dollars below 510 or 50 points above 510.

Your profit range is 431 to 589. You max out at 510. You don’t lose until the stock surpasses 589…

Well… If your account is up 40,000 in a few days…you have to expect some volatility in your pnl. Nice week BCEagle91.

This should probably go in one of the retirement threads but I’m to lazy to dig one out. It’s a documentary on the transition from pensions to 401Ks. I haven’t reviewed it yet but it’s recommended on CBS Marketwatch. This is a convenient place for me to grab the link later for viewing. I don’t think that it paints a pretty picture.

I only care about getting the max at 510.

BCEagle91, thanks for that link. I wanted to watch the show and I forgot about it. So thanks. Looks very interesting.
