That chart of the day article which makes some claims is bs. 3 std’s above the mean and the 99% criteria are applicable to a Gaussian distribution which the market is not as people have learned the hard way in the past.

That being said, I like many others am praying for a substantial pullback.

I like the article because Karen sells at 2 stds below and above the stock market and the market moved 3 stds.

Also… The article was written 3 weeks ago and the stock market is a little lower now.

I could increase my market exposure. I am not that long, but… I am surprised how much my acct has been hit. Biotechs and interest related stocks are not doing too well.

I haven’t seen my monthly statements from my bond accounts but I am pretty sure the numbers are going to look ugly.

Then there is Japan…

Several days ago, I sold 50% of my 401k’s and put into cash. I’m not very long in my taxable accounts at this stage. I still have some aapl, xlf, intc, msft, utx and asml however.

That looks like a good decision…

I traded once a day the last 3 days. I haven’t been trading that much.

I haven’t sold any puts this week. I didn’t sell many last week either.
Just in case things get ugly.

I like Japan. When I say that, I like Japan 3 years out. My time frames are longer than most. I used to trade in milliseconds and now I trade in years. lol

The recent price action in Japan bugs me. Really, really strong markets don’t correct enough to let investors in and Japan has corrected 20 percent? I may have to reconsider my views of Japan.

The hot money chasing Japan has turned tail.

I don’t know what to do with aapl so I am not doing anything.

When you are accused of insider trading, here is a good excuse: “We have identified that there was a minor clock synchronization issue causing the data to be released x milliseconds early.”

I was about to say that the “Nikkei will be okay” then I realized tomorrow is June 6, 2013. If I remember the times I followed the numerology instructions, you are supposed to reduce the year to a single digit number by adding its digits. So, 2+0+1+3 = 6.

Tomorrow is 666! You can either  or go

666?

Lol…

I am trying to figure out if and when to short natural gas futures. Historically natural gas peaks sometime around June 15th and then drops until about September 1st. I am hoping that cycle occurs this year but it has been a weird year.

I have never traded natural gas.

I looked at the natural gas futures for July, Aug and Sept and they are all trading at similar prices.

I have no idea what to make of this. :)

Natural gas is used for power plants too, which in many parts of the country, are busy powering air conditioners in the summer.

I saw some interesting stuff in the BLS Q1 Productivity and Costs Report at
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/prod2.nr0.htm

"Unit labor costs in nonfarm businesses fell 4.3 percent in the first
quarter of 2013, the combined effect of a 3.8 percent decrease in hourly compensation and the 0.5 percent increase in productivity. The decline in hourly compensation is the largest in the series, which begins in 1947. However, over the last four quarters hourly compensation increased 2.0 percent and unit labor costs rose 1.1 percent. (See table A.) "

Why is hourly compensation going down at such a rate? Then for manufacturing:

"Unit labor costs in manufacturing decreased 10.0 percent in
the first quarter of 2013, due to both the 3.5 percent increase in
productivity and a 6.9 percent decrease in hourly compensation. Over the last four quarters, hourly compensation increased 4.5 percent and unit labor costs increased 2.8 percent. (See tables A and 3.) "

I find the labor costs issue interesting…

I also find this interesting…

My wife asked me to buy PBA and INTC for her account. I just did that.

I personally don’t really care for her investment decisions but these two are not bad at these prices. I can’t believe that someone put a price target on MSFT for $39.

Our wives could be right.

They married us. They were right about that. Lol

"I can’t believe that someone put a price target on MSFT for $39. "

I can handle that price target.

Why is tlt down? I was thinking of selling some puts.

Ahem, ahem. There are wives here. AMGN was a dip buy last Wed pm. Now that I sold it today, I may have seller’s remorse next week.

Ahem… Ahem…

I have respect for wives.

One of my worst trades of my career occured when I was at the beginning of my career. My wife hated the trade and wanted to take the other side.

She was right. I could have been wiped out.
