Another one. I read the original story this morning. Totally believable as she told people right after it happened.
There was a dreadful child sex abuse against a British DJ, Jimmy Saville. It was appalling what he had been able to get away with for many years including assaulting kids in hospital. He managed to get himself into a position where he had an incredible amount of access to vulnerable youngsters. He had died before it all came out. He was an odd and rather creepy character. Then another much beloved celebrity, Rolf Harris, was accused. He was a very loveable endearing character and I really hoped it would turn out not to be true. Sadly it was.
My reaction about Takei is the same - I hope it tis not true. I think because he has been an advocate for so many that it would be especially sad. (not saying it shouldn’t come out if it is true, just hoping maybe this one is not)
Apparently, Takei was on the Howard Stern show (before these allegations against him) and pretty much admitted that he used to grope men without their consent.

I always found Jimmy Saville extremely creepy. I could not understand his appeal at all.
I’m getting to the point with this that I want to put my hands over my ears and say la la la, But one cannot.
It’s time to start exposing and shaming teachers more while we’re at it:

The local section of the LA Times had two big stories about sexual harassment. One involved Tony Mendoza, a member of the California state legislature who has had several complaints lodged against him, one involving a 19 year old intern.
The other story was about a teacher at the Marlborough School for Girls (very pricey) who had sex with two students. He had been dismissed from the Viewpoint School (also private and pricey) for the same reason but that school had withheld the information and gave him a good recommendation. The girls got settlements from both places.
Right now, the House is having a hearing about sexual harassment and sexual offenses in Congress. According to female lawmakers, there’s a lot of it, including by Congressmen.
An 8th woman has come forward about George HW Bush, this time from an incident in the 1990s.
