The Knick

Did anyone catch the premiere of this on Cinemax this weekend? I loved it, bloodiness and all, but I’m a total costume drama whore - all my favorite shows are either foreign, period pieces, or both. We’re not Cinemax subscribers but I’m thinking of signing up just so I can watch this in real time.

The review I heard on it the other day was really positive – the reviewer was sad because the advance copy only provided the first six episodes, and he wanted more. That’s a very good sign.

I thought it was great, but to be honest I had to hide my eyes a lot. My physician husband found that humorous.

Yeah … I grossed out a lot too.

I liked it too, and may also subscribe to Cinemax to be able to watch it–it’s already been renewed for a second season, so the trick of subscribing and cancelling may not work in this case. I found myself feeling profoundly grateful that my C-section was 84 years later and at the same time wondering how primitive our practice of medicine will seem 100 years from now.

I was surprised that even during the emergency surgery (well, I guess both were emergencies), there was a full house of observers–surprised that there were so many doctors on staff and surprised they would all have the time to watch. But the show seems to be taking a great deal of care with historical accuracy, so maybe it’s just that Dr. Thackeray’s innovations attract a big audience.

Still loving this show, especially Nurse Lucy Elkins, a West Virginian like me. She seems to be developing a facination for Thackery but I hate to see that happen - she can’t “save” no matter how hard she tries.

I just binge-watched the first three episodes. Love it.

How did you watch it if you don’t have cinemax? I think my DS would enjoy that show!
