The thought occurred to me that if these stories were untrue, Moore would be threatening to sue The Washington Post for libel, slander and/or defamation. However, TRUTH is a defense to each one of those claims.
I believe he did ask the other mothers for permission to date teens and those women are confirming so I have to wonder why this one outlier that was secret. Outliers always cause me pause.
I believe the clock starts ticking upon the first date, not the birth of the child. Salman is approximately her 8th child (birth/marriage records were not exactly meticulously kept in those days.) Supposedly Hussa bint Ahmed Al Sudairi was 13 at the time of marriage; I’d call that underage.

A former colleague of GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore said Saturday that it was “common knowledge” that the Alabama Republican dated high school girls when he worked in the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office in the 1980s.
In a statement to CNN, Teresa Jones, who served as deputy district attorney for Etowah County, Ala., from 1982 until 1985, said that multiple people thought it was unusual that Moore dated high school girls, but that no one ever raised the matter with him.
“It was common knowledge that Roy Moore dated high school girls, everyone we knew thought it was weird,” Jones told CNN. “We wondered why someone his age would hang out at high school football games and the mall … but you really wouldn’t say anything to someone like that.”
Her story is that he met her at the courthouse when her parents were there for a custody hearing. The Post verifies that the parents were there and he was there. She says he chatted her up while her mother was in the courtroom and got her phone number, then secretly met with her several times, picking her up in his car around the corner so her mother wouldn’t know and transporting her to a house in an isolated location.
In what way would that be easily verifiable?
@“Cardinal Fang” -
Did she disclose to anyone at the time? Did she keep and still have a diary or journal that recorded it? Has she told anyone prior to this?
It appears that the basic facts of the potential contact can be confirmed. Her parents were in a hearing at that time, Moore did work in the building. Do school records exist to show whether she was marked absent on those days? Do the court records reflect her presence? I don’t know if phone records go back that far, but if they do, those could be checked. Perhaps the woman can describe what his apartment looked like and the description can be confirmed or refuted by others who visited at the time? Can she describe what kind of car he was driving?
She did. Two friends said that she told them that at the time that she was dating an older man.
Trust but verify. It was common knowlege he dated teens. Two older teens have confirmed they dated him and at least one parent knew. Why this 14 year old and why is the story so different? Is it believable that this story is different because of her age and he didn’t want anyone to know…yes. Is it equally believable that the story isn’t what is being put forth in the middle of the me-too media focus…yes.
In case you haven’t seen the original story. She told her friends at the time that she was “seeing an older man”, she told her mother all the details 10 years later after he was elected to some post, etc., etc. He didn’t live in an apartment, but a house in the woods. That’s all been confirmed.
How much proof does anyone need? This can no longer be a criminal case because of how much time has gone by. All this ‘proof’ is merely validation for the victim. A way for people to believe her and respect what happened to her. But it’s never enough is it? She’s probably in hiding now and it looks like her “second friend”, who remained anonymous, figured out that this storm would happen and it would hurt the victims more than anyone else.
Yes to the last for sure - an old boyfriend plus relatives and friends. Not sure if she did at the exact time it happened, and no mention of a journal.
The Washington Post has confirmed these stories with 30 different people.
I trust The Washington Post. Like other reputable media sources, they check their material and require numerous confirmations of something before they will go with it. And if it turns out to be untrue, they will retract it.
Why don’t people trust the mainstream media? This is their job. This is what they do!! If they’re not truthful, they won’t be in business very long.
Roy Moore has said he has information that will show these women are lying. I look forward to seeing and assessing that information.
ETA: If you have any doubt that this story is true, please read[/u ] the actual story in The Washington Post:
I believe she told a boyfriend many many many years ago and he confirmed it.
Since the Washington Post article, two more people have come forward to say that Corfman or her mother told them about this years ago. I’m trying to find links, but I found out about both on Twitter.
One was Mike Ortiz, a man who dated her in 2009. He said she told him about the (alleged) molestation.

A second was a friend of her mother. The friend says the mother told her about the allegations around 1992. Recall that Corfman says she told her mother the story some years after the (alleged) molestation.
Here is an example of a memorial marker that was “corrected” after the evidence of a sexual dalliance was revealed:

By now, it’s undeniable that Corfman, the alleged molestation victim, has been telling friends and family about this alleged incident for decades. That doesn’t make it true, but it refutes the claim that she recently made up the story for political reasons.
It’s a complete mystery to me why a 14-year-old who was molested by a district attorney wouldn’t rush to the courthouse to file a deposition.
Probably because at the monent it was “exciting” to get the interest of an older man. And it wasn’t until her friends told her it was a bad idea and she started to feel guilty. Sad story indeed. It certainly sounds like she has shared this with many people along her life path.
Because she was 14. 14. And he was an authority figure - the district attorney. Many young people are molested and do not report it. Guilt, embarrassment, fear of not being believed, victim blaming. The people who don’t believe her now probably would not have believed her than. He had all the power - that’s why he knew felt he could get away with it as is the same with many people in positions of power.
It’s very easy to stand on the outside and say someone should have reported something. I look back on my younger days and things myself or other friends experienced as young women and none of us reported anything. No rapes but lots of things that should not have happened. Certainly in the workplace back then there was no training about sexual harassment and how to handle it. Sadly we regarded it as normal (not that every man was doing it by any means but there were certainly those that did) and that there were some creeps out there and just learned how to deal with it. Would never have really crossed our minds to report it. I was the victim of a minor incident as a 17 year old in my first job and just avoided the person. As I got older I was more confident and able to look a person in the eye and tell them to back off (had to remind one visiting executive when he told me he was stronger than me that he had some very sensitive areas). But really it would never have crossed my mind back then to report him.
I think CF was being sarcastic…
I’m sure she found it exciting to get the attention of an older man, right up until he molested her. I find her story believable. I can imagine being that 14-year-old, thinking it was exciting, but then finding herself way in over her head. She reacted the way I think I would have reacted: all of a sudden he’s taking her clothes off, and she’s thinking ugh, make it stop make it stop make it stop what do I do now.
I wouldn’t have told, either.
And this is why it’s a crime to molest children. Because they don’t have adult judgment and they get in way over their head.
