One woman says when she was a teenager, Moore asked for her phone number, she declined to give it, and he later called her school to talk to her. She was pulled out of her trig class to talk to him. Comedy sketches are going to have a field day over this.
This is for all the people who do not understand why the women did not come forward earlier. Not in response to any specific poster here, but just my thoughts after seeing news coverage this week questioning the women.
In 1985, I worked for a major bank in a mgmt training program for college graduates. The VP of consumer lending was a known harasser and lech. Every young female was warned. I experienced inappropriate comments from him on my physical appearance and inappropriate physical contact - in the open - in front of other people. Absolutely nothing was done. Everyone knew about his behavior. It was tolerated. There was no avenue to file a complaint or do anything. Eventually, he was transferred to another division and then later he was actually fired. I don’t know if that was because something worse happened or if by 1990 or so the bank mgmt had finally had enough.
So, back then, there was no “coming forward”. Today is a different environment. He’s probably deceased at this point, but if he was alive and running for public office, I would certainly come forward and describe in detail what that man said and did to me. It was humiliating. And it made me feel completely powerless.
So, yes, I believe these women and I understand why they waited 40 years to speak up.
Roy Moore now says he didn’t date underage girls. He’d be smarter to just deny the sexual assaults, because it’s evident that he did date underage girls.
I wouldn’t trust the polls right now. People that are going to vote for him aren’t going to say they are. Didn’t we learn a lesson in the last election? I saw it happen in our town over a very decisive issue. The nay folks were very loudly and public ally prolific and if you believed the press and the polls you’d think the issue was going down to a resounding defeat and the yeah sayers just kept their mouths closed and went to the polls and the issue passed. I personally wouldn’t put much credence in the polls right now. Frankly, in my opinion the LESS women that come out of the woodwork the stronger the 14 year old’s claims would stand… My gut says she’s telling the truth but .now if that gets lost in a bunch of “me-too” people, frankly, just get bogged down. It would be especially bad if just one of the “me-toos” got caught in a white lie, then people will shrug and think more of them aren’t quite telling the truth unfortunately.
I’m never surprised by men doing bad sexual things. I’m a man, and I think I know how the average man thinks. But all of this stuff lately is really shocking to me.
When I hear about men cheating, it doesn’t even get my attention. I’m not condoning it, but I know that it’s well within the statistical norm. But 14 year old girls? Disrobing and masturbating in front of two girls you just met? Forcing yourself on women? Even by male standards, this is all really disgusting.
This can’t be blamed on power, either. No man with any decency at all would stoop to forcing himself on a woman just because he can. You’re either the kind of man who would force yourself on a woman or you’re not. And luckily, as much as men are pigs in general, the vast majority of men would never even consider forcing themselves on a woman, no matter how much power they had over them. Not even close. Not even slightly unbalanced men or men who have very limited options. We’re talking about real sickies here when we’re talking about men who would do any of these things.
I agree Fang. He’s better off admitting he liked 16-18 year olds…he’ll catch flack but it’s not illegal and I’m sure I’m not the only woman who knows men (our age) who still pursue youngers. Fortunately the older they get the older the sweet young things get, but sure in the 30s and 40s they were after late teens and twenties women. But I also think people are discounting how young some women are sexually active too. These days 40% of high school women are sexually active and that is a declining number so who knows what it was in the 80s but it did reach at some point over 50% before it started declining so no one should really be “shocked” …and an older man can be a pretty potent attraction compared to a 16 year old man-child. 14 is young and illegal absolutely, but 16-17-18. does not shock me. I don’t think it’s a power thing either…it’s just something that a small percentage of men sometimes never outgrow. I think the young teen just maturing attraction is perverted and physically forcing is inexcusable at any age.

Okay, another new (sleazy) tactic being floated. Luther Strange holds the seat right now. If he resigns the seat, then they have to call a new election, and can put up a new candidate.
The other Republican senator from Alabama says he will write in a name instead of voting for Moore. How is that going to play in Alabama?

^^ His lawyer is also a little bit racist, or possibly just an oblivious dinosaur based on his comments to that MSNBC reporter (a Muslim raised in Canada) - a jumbled and somewhat incoherent attempt to say that the reporter’s background would help him understand Moore’s behavior, culturally, due to arranged marriages. Yeah, it didn’t make any sense to me or anybody else either, but it certainly did offend the two reporters doing the interview.
I think this gives the average man too much credit. My three closest friends from my hometown all raped women and I had absolutely no idea. It was so far out of my character that I expected it would have been out of theirs, too. One of them told me when he was in a confessional mood when we were in our late 30s. Meeting them, you would never suspect. The one who told me was the only one the least bit repentant.
Hannity backed off Moore - shocking. I think the whole thing was a ratings ploy, he left his “decision” to the end of his show, apparently, instead discussing Clinton etc.
