Getting out the African American vote in Alabama is critical to defeating Moore. I’m assuming Barkley’s comments are aimed at doing that.
I think another factor at play here is a misogynist streak in some evangelical circles that says who can blame him for hitting on a 14 year old when so many women are “ruined” by 16-18 (ie not virgins anymore).
That he was doing the ruining isn’t relevant to that way of thinking because, basically, men have all the rights and women - how young is debatable but certainly including 14 years olds - do not.
Believing women should not have access to abortion is not inconsistent with that worldview.
A Breitbart editor went on CNN this morning and used Ringo Starr to defend Roy Moore because of his song “You’re Sixteen.”
I really don’t know why I’m surprised. The depths that people will sink to shouldn’t surprise me anymore.
@intparent The WP has an article pretty much saying the same thing. I don’t like it because if Moore loses it will be “ if only more blacks came out to vote”. Why should we be responsible for moore getting in office ? How about work on all of the whites who think he is fit for office? Why are they not held accountable?? This is just a pet peeve of mine.
I can see why it would be a pet peeve. Although I wish it wasn’t so, by far the majority of Dems in Alabama are African American. So it does stand to reason that efforts to turn that vote out are logical in this race. But if Moore wins, in my mind it will be clearly the fault of white conservative voters who cast their vote for him.
I’ve done get out the vote campaigning before. At the end, it often comes down to who shows up. But that effort really has to start well before to get voters registered and obtain any needed IDs. I think Alabama requires a picture ID at the polling place. Registering voters is actually one of my favorite political activities.
Here we go – someone is mounting a write in campaign:

At least he’s got an easy name to spell- he’s got that going for him.
I wonder who he would (theoretically) siphon more votes off of.
A woman approached The [Washington] Post with dramatic — and false — tale about Roy Moore. She appears to be part of undercover sting operation.
I’m so glad they didn’t fall for it. It just makes WP look better because it shows they really try to verify stories that come before them.
Wow. Was going to say I’m shocked but…I’m not.
I agree that it makes the WP look better because it shows they take their job seriously and weren’t lying when they said they’d verified everything and the (real) stories were backed up by 30 people.
My jaw is on the floor about that attempt, though. I can’t believe that people in this day and age are really trying to scam the mainstream media like this. It’s truly shocking.
Can they prosecute that woman??
I don’t know who i have more contempt for but rock bottom has found yet another basement
They should have sent a male reporter to that second interview and had him introduce himself as Bernie Bernstein.
Honestly, and that group is considered a charity? It boggles the mind.
Trying to scam the media is nothing new.
For example:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kerry_military_service_controversy
Watch the video. The scammer is all, Oh, I guess I don’t want to follow through with this accusation after all, and the Washington Post reporter is all, We’re going to report this and by the way we’re filming you; is there anything else you want to tell us? Delightful. The biter bit.
Hence the
Much harder to bs now with cameras and recording equipment quite literally everywhere.
Wow CF, I didn’t watch the video until now. That is so cringe-worthy. If she had an ounce of humanity, I might even have secondhand embarrassment for her.
Rachel Maddow had something on her show maybe a year ago, warning the mainstream media about scams. Apparently her show was presented with “documentation” alleging it was a leak about something. In checking it out, Rachel’s show realized it was phony.
I’m absolutely thrilled that The Wash Post was able to uncover this woman. I guess she’ll never work in this town again!!
I dunno, James O’Keefe is still working, if you can call it that.
