Reminds me of when Reagan referenced the good old days, with something like “before we even knew we had a race problem.”
Except Roy Moore explicitely refers to slavery times as the good old days AND excludes nonwhite from the idea of “family”.
Reagan’s words could refer back to the pre-civil rights movement era, for sure, but didn’t refer to slavery nor did it deshumanize a large number of Americans.
But, to me, if preying on teen girls isn’t the line in the sand for Alabamians, then nothing is.

There was a study on viewers: MSNBC viewers are almost all liberal, Fox news viewers are almost all conservative, and CNN viewers tended to be in the center and independent, both right leaning and left leaning, although a bit more left leaning. But definitely nothing like MSNBC.
What Roy Moore did has nothing to do with CNN though - what he liked to do, himself, as a da., with teen girls, has been backed by dozens of people, and many of them vote for Republicans and/or support Donald Trump so it’s not a political hatchet job.
Politics aside, the skepticism with which many people view “mainstream media” is really a troubling phenomenon to me. A democracy can only succeed wtih a well-informed electorate. When voters are unwilling to believe facts, and unable to distinguish facts from obvious bald-faced lies, everyone from every political party should be deeply concerned.
Moore is holding up in polls in AL specifically because of this. It’s not because a lot of his voters think sexual predators are ok - that’s the party leaders talking because they want his vote. The Moore voter really, truly, believes his obvious and outrageous lies. And they dismiss compelling facts and evidence of his lies as “fake news” and “liberal media”. They make AL look bad, but they also make the whole darn country look bad. IMHO this is representative of a deep failure of our educational system and of leaders who value winning at all costs.

Well, obviously… first Fox, then MSNBC, made the decision to become explicitly partisan news. And it was great for their business, since they gained much greater viewership than CNN, which is now in distant third place among the cable news networks. CNN tried to stay in the center the longest, so that right-leaning viewers lumped it into “untrustworthy left-wing media” and left-leaning viewers lumped it into “untrustworthy right-wing media”.
