Thanks a lot @greyeyedgoddess
Do you also happen to know if within Math 3 there are different levels (like a more advanced math 3, slower math 3) or is it all pretty even?

Just wondering @mrnephew how did you get so advanced in math? Does your school follow a different math system?

Oh and I can’t wait until house assignments!!
:)

@sunshinegirl17 From what I understand, I think it’s pretty even. Granted, that’s “pretty even” level is pretty high compared to most other (especially public) schools.

If I took geometry and got a high C-high B range (at a high B range haven’t got my final exam grade yet) would I probably be placed in math 3 in freshman year?
**btw I was at lville today playing squash and the track is right near the squash courts so I went for a run, it was beautiful and it was peaceful with nobody there

@mrnephew hey just curious are you coming from a public or private school? I know I go to public, and we have freshman in calc BC already. Then again regular math is considered geometry for 9th graders so I think we may be a year ahead compared to some schools but idk.

Anyway yeah don’t be upset about your math placement because of your parents, you’re still very advanced and they should be proud, not disappointed :)

Public. I plan on taking another placement test after summer, anyway. Thanks. :)

Man, I thought our math diagram chart was beyond crazy. Yours is off the hook!!! I’m surprised statistics is a pre-req for MVC/DE.

How are you guys able to get so far ahead? The farthest ahead anyone at my school was at Precalc as a freshman, and that’s because he came from a different school district. I wish I was able to get farther ahead, the school just generally doesn’t allow it beyond two years ahead.

I’m in Precalc as a freshman…

I know my district is known for putting people veryyyy far ahead I math. Like I said, people are at least in geometry for their freshman year, while people in algebra1 are considered “dumb”. It’s very nice though, because then almost everyone is able to take calculus AB by the time they graduate. I know a lot of my friends are actually taking CalcBC next year as sophomores, which is what @mrnephew is trying to do.

I wish I could have done that.
:(|)

In my district, half of the freshmen take algebra 1 and half take geometry. In middle school, math is the only leveled class with just two levels. High school will be the first time there’s really differentiation.

Oh, in my school you can take geometry in 8th grade which is what i’m in. A few kids are also in Algebra 2 but those kids have special arrangements with the school because you can’t just do well to be in algebra 2.

Okay, not that anyone actually wants to know more about my school district’s math, but also in the fifth grade, everyone takes a test to see what kind of math they’ll be in. Anyone who scores above the 90th percentile can go to pre-algebra as a sixth grader, and anyone with like 98-99th percentile can take te test to take algebra 1 in the sixth grade, which is pretty darn cool if you ask me.
Then you have the “triple advanced people…”

@mrnephew DD will be checking in on the Aug 30th for pre-season. When are you flying in?

Just the regular day, I’m thinking we should fly in September 5th or so.

i might be wrong but the registration for Forms III-V is Sept 3, so students should be allowed to move in on Sept 2 or 3. Check out the calendar and don’t miss important events. :)

http://www.lawrenceville.org/calendars/index.aspx#&&pivotDate=09+2014

Did everyone get assigned for summer conditioning or was it just for invited athletes? DD is not one of them but got that and thought it seemed too much workout for summer.

@SharingGift, I think that they sent that to everyone so that way they could be prepped for Lville sports in the fall. Your DD should just pick the sports that she is interested and pick and choose from the workouts from those designated sports.

Oh wait, is it that early? I thought move in day was the 7th. I have no clue where that came from.

By all candidates of sports do they mean people that want to try out? Or people who are all on the team?

By the 7th, you’ll have missed registration, dinner with advisers, House meetings, new student orientation, academic orientation, and (gasp) House Olympics! How can you afford not to attend…
