Also, @greyeyedgoddess Do you know about the new III form trip thingy?

@mrnephew No, I don’t. What is it?

I think it’s where all of the new Third former’s get to bond over like a camping trip or something.

Oh, wow. Yeah I feel like I heard about that somewhere but now I am totally blanking obviously. Do you know if it’s mandatory?

I’m sure it’s voluntary. Yeah, I heard it somewhere too but I just can’t remember where… It’s driving me crazy.

I wonder how that conflicts with the invited athletes thing. Perhaps it’s before the invited athletes are meant to arrive.

Do you think you’ll go?

If I can, definitely. But I have a very busy summer… SAT prep and some mini law internships.

Oh god, SAT prep for what? (If you don’t mind me asking - is it for CTY or something?)

Great! I’m going to be third former so I should be fine. Thanks @mrnephew

I had already heard about this <a href=“Maya Peterson forced to resign as Lawrenceville School's first black student-president | Daily Mail Online”>Maya Peterson forced to resign as Lawrenceville School's first black student-president | Daily Mail Online; but today it’s Front Page News. I think it’s important to note that this sort of thing can happen anywhere (at any school) and I’m not posting this link to single out Lawrenceville. Lawrenceville is an amazing school and I believe they acted appropriately. Their actions send a powerful message to all students- not just the students at their school.

Kids: This is just one more (unfortunate) example of how Social Media (along with poor judgment ) can derail a bright and (very) promising future. Before you post anything anywhere - Please think long and hard about the potential long term damage you can do to yourself and others.

Yup.

And, @greyeyedgoddess SAT prep for the SAT. I’m taking it in October this year.

Thanks for the link. I saw that on facebook, actually, with @TheLawrentian messaging me that link as well.

I also saw that on the Lawrence newspaper. It’s a very sad story.

Anybody know what should we buy for our rooms?

Wow. Amazing article, @photographermom. Kind of amazing that this can happen in this day and age. Very good advice about being extra careful on social media. That stuff can obviously come back to bite you!

Am i the only one that believe Ms.Peterson should have done what she has done (not the smoking marijuana part or Sihk part) but exposes and standing up for what she believes in.

@Hsgirl25 I do agree with some things she has said (I personally don’t believe in reverse racism), but I do think the situation changes since she’s president. If she was any other student, that would be a different story, but when you’re elected to represent the student body, you have to represent the good and the bad. Granted, some of her comments are totally valid (calling out the racism and misogyny) but the “typical Lawrenceville boi” thing is a little unsavory since she’s president.

I personally thought it was fun. It reminds like how Seth Mcfarlane can do offensive things and call it satire and he is in the media and she does something I believe is minor and it is a huge hoop-la

True. I mean, the issue is that she’s president, you know? She was elected to represent. If it were any other student, it would be a joke. I do think the administration overreacted though. A formal apology, maybe, but asking her to step down? Or disciplinary action? Quite extreme.

You know that saying, “You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar?” This young woman needs to learn the importance of debating issues in an intelligent, constructive way, and the value of showing respect to others if she wants their respect. She might find that the “racism” she constantly finds everywhere is really other people’s distaste for her unpleasant behavior.

I don’t quite understand the motive behind it though. If you’re opposing racism and misogyny, surely there are more constructive ways to demonstrate this?
