I predict that the environmental science major is going to take the nation by storm and be uber popular. I mean what could be more relevant what with climate change and cap 'n trade up in the air? I personally think that it’s such a cool and yet practical major :)

I think it’s going to be the “light” medical fields–radiologists, dermatologists, orthodonists, physical therapists. The people who are guaranteed to make a return on their education in a certain amount of time, work 9-5 (versus on-call surgeons), and retire well. At least that’s the trend I see at my school.

People aren’t interested enough in the environment to pursue a career in saving it. It’s a big, vague concept that doesn’t affect people day to day; the connection between the environment and their personal lives can seem vague. And the technology for it is fairly new–this field, I’d think, would take entrepreneur-types, not the everyman.

Pshh, while you go try to save the world from ourselves, us aerospace engineers will continue on our much cooler top-secret program of rebuilding the death star.

History majors will be looking for jobs doing nonhistory things

Philosophy majors will…ummm…teach philosophy.

Yep! That is why I’m going into pharmacy! :D

Engineering. I want to teach English or be a journalist and I say that.
I know, I’m so career-oriented. =P

Environmental science and engineering is already on the rise dramatically… this isn’t news…

I’m surprised that no one has mentioned Economics!

Engineers. :d

I also predict Environmental Studies. The market for all things pro-green and energy-efficient is on the rise. More and more businesses are going green, so being an environmental engineer can be quite profitable.

And while most CCers probably would prefer to keep their heads in the ground, many students ARE being compelled by their anxiety for global warming. I would love to go into environmental studies myself, but I know I haven’t got the science or math skills to succeed or make a proper contribution in that area…
You can bet your ass I’ll try to lead an energy-efficient life, though.

I second Economics! With this global financial and economic crisis, it has and will continue to spark interests in economics. It is something that affects people of all demographics and everyone knows about it.
