He is about to make history and gets a stroke for one of the most subjective and arbitrary rules in golf. Such a crock!

“I enjoyed watching Fred play when his golf game was on fire, years ago, but I never really got why he was so appealing to women. He hasn’t had very good luck in the relationship department so you ladies who are still crushing on him, stay away!”

After I read ‘A Good Walk Spoiled’ almost every golfer was off my list except Freddie.

woo hoo Freddie! We’ll get to see him for two more days!!

And he still hits it a long way.

Most amateurs would like to post Sergio’s scores. But they do not have his talent and support. That does not mean he is not the underachiever and choker he has been since he barged on the circuit with that one memorable performance.

Anyway, he seems to know himself pretty well as he more or less predicted his usual subpar performance of today. The same old Sergio.

As far as the young prodigy, you got to feel for him, but he was given several warnings. Perhaps he did watch too much the above mentioned underachieving slowpoke.

What a round for Jason Day! And, phew, the kid makes the cut.

I was happy to see the kid make the cut!!! Didn’t get to watch much of the Masters today unfortunately. We were catching what we could on the live stream app on my phone though :D.

Hey guys. Today I was bored so I put golf on and I feel that I’m going to become a regular already xD This is exactly how my obsession with tennis started.

Don’t enjoy the commentators - when Tiger Wood’s ball bounced into the water they acted like the world was ending, and then Fowler’s ball landed in the water in the same place and they were like, “Ah, hits it just short.”

The difference was that Tiger hit a PERFECT shot, a shot that is so difficult many of the top players in the world chunked it into the water because of the pressure… That was one of the worst breaks I’ve ever seen in golf.

For him to then turn around and hit a perfect shot the second time and make his bogey. Wow. Ice water in his veins.

It’s impossible to really imagine how hard that shot is until you’ve stood in that fairway and looked at it.

On the slow kid, I watched him take practice swing after practice swing after practice swing before hitting his approach on 11. He was slower than molasses. And that was after his group had been warned that they were out of position. Once, he got his first bad time on 13, he had to pick it up. Players in professional tournaments don’t get penalties because they know, once they are on the clock, they have to get on with it.

Speaking of underachievers. Who didn’t expect Sergio to crash and burn. But, the chock of the day was Dustin Johnson. Wow. That was ugly.

To give the kid credit, Guan did reply that he respected the decision (about the 1 stroke penalty). Mature response. Happy he made cut so we can see him on weekend.
Yes, Sergio was no surprise. But Dustin sure was!
Phil was disappointing today. Interestingly, Rory has moved way up in odds with UK bookies. I didn’t see that much that would lead me to bet on him…
Kind of happy to see Snedeker sneak up the board.
Would be happier to see more US flags making the cut…we’re outnumbered!
And Tiger. The. Worst. Break. And flippin’ impressive on his second shot. (bowing down in awe)

Oh my, the Tiger haters are going to have a field day today!

Yes…a no win situation for Tiger. If he continues and wins, the win will always be tainted and his integrity questioned. If he DQ’s himself, no win either.

Very sad to see how a really unfortunate shot has spun into this–and whoever wins will have to share with the controversy.

Just read he got a 2 shot penalty, not DQ.

I think the penalty vs DQ is valid because no officials brought the bad drop to his attention. The DQ would have been because he signed an incorrect scorecard. Had an official made the call on a bad drop, he would not have signed an incorrect scorecard. But everyone will say it’s because of ratings. But then again, it’s the Masters, and I don’t think they’re particularly concerned about ratings.

Also- I think Guan’s understanding of English is very poor and that he fakes a lot of what he thinks people are saying. Listen to some of his interviews, he almost never actually answers the questions directly. He has a lot of pat generic answers that sound like they’ve been coached.

I am guessing he did not completely understand what the officials were saying to him (probably understood that he was playing too slow, but maybe not what he needed to do in order to not get his score whacked). Add to the mix that he’s a 14 year old kid, I think it was a giant miscalculation/misunderstanding on his part of the gravity of his infraction and the gravity of the potential punishment. However, he’ll never make that mistake again, so it was effective :D!

I still don’t know if I understand why Tiger was penalized? Did anyone else catch the mistake he made?

My understanding was that someone watching TV pointed out the error to a judge. Does that mean there is now instant replay in golf?

Vonn is watching Tiger but McElroy’s girlfriend is hotter.

On most drops involving that water hazard you can drop keeping the line of where the ball crossed the hazard between you and the hole and going back as far as you want.

But, that’s not the rule he was dropping under. He was dropping at the position of the last stroke. The rule requires dropping as close as you can to the original spot. You could see his first divot on TV. He dropped a foot or two behind that. Close enough for the rules officials reviewing the tape while he was still playing yesterday to say it was legal.

Then, he opened his mouth in his TV interview and said he wanted to drop two feet further back (so the ball would land short and not hit the pin the second time!). The fact that he declared his intention, made it an illegal drop (i.e. not as close as possible to the position of the original shot).

Steam is going to be coming out of Tiger’s ears today. I don’t imagine he’ll be joking around much. We’ve probably just seen the last post round TV interview he ever does…

He was suppose to drop as close as possible to original spot. To drop behind where he was would have been to take his other drop option but he had a bad line from over there. He admitted after his round that he dropped several feet back to have better shot…which is wrong. He should know rules and if he honestly was confused, that has not been defense in past (newer rule about ignorance is suppose to respond to number of ball moves, etc that hard to see unless looking at HD slow motion - and likely player was really unaware). Razor sharp, There may not be instant replay but based on commentators it is not unusual for spectators or viewers to report when something looks wrong and tournament officials check it out.

Oops crossed

Tiger definitely should have know the rule (and I think he knew.)

“Vonn is watching Tiger but McElroy’s girlfriend is hotter.”

Caroline Wosniacki. Was #1 tennis player in the world for a few years without ever winning a major. Still in the top 10.

They’ve been a couple for a few years now.
