The Masters, Golf 2013

No way. I would say it is among the better ones. You have three people from Australia who might become the first from their little country to win. You have Cabrera who was the leader at the start but then fell behind and now is back. You have 55 year old on the leader board. Fred Couples is still hitting like crazy. There is a 14 year old from China who made the cut. Tiger got a controversial penalty and he is showing off his new girlfriend who is an olympian (and probably crazy). You have golfers you would have expected to in the hunt who are nowhere (Mickelson, Els, etc). It’s raining which changes everything how the guys play. There is no doubt this is a much better Masters than in the past.

And Scott has Tiger’s old caddie.

I am glad you are enjoying the Masters. Scott and Cabrera just livened things up for me.

Listening to Angel talk. Very gracious guy.

I only tuned in because it was about time for 60 Minutes. Great finish.

Too bad Scott used that gimmicky putter. Lets see how he putts without it soon.

Wow! What an exciting tiebreaker finish to this “boring” contest. Hope you guys hung in there and didn’t miss it!

Great finish!

Nice that neither player choked it away.

Officially a golf fan! Also Adam Scott fan!

I’m amazed at how close their balls were to each other on those last holes. They make it look so easy but being that precise is NOT. Did get to see much on TV but LOVED the live streaming from their smartphone app. The picture was crystal clear!!

Too bad Scott used that gimmicky putter. Lets see how he putts without it soon.

I don’t think he has to give up his putter even if the rule passes. My understanding is that it will just be “anchored” putters that will be against the rules … long putters will still be okay. It doesn’t look to me like Scott’s putter is the anchored type.

I went to the Sunday round last year but am glad we didn’t have tickets to it this year (too hard to try to see over those umbrellas). We left town yesterday … had a full week of amazing weather (Thursday’s drizzle cleared up by mid-day and was outstanding). I went to the par 3 on Wednesday, which was the “hot” day. It was fun, though! :)

Hey guys, did you know that no Australian has ever won the Masters before?

Leave it to CBS to beat us over the head with some factoid until we are declared brain dead from the concussions. Sheesh…

Idad— hahaha, my thoughts exactly!
O.K., if Freddie couldn’t win, very happy for Adam! Love it when a gentleman and good sport (and good looker) wins. And Angel was a gentleman and good sport, too. Loved that he had his son on the bag. Sorry to see Brandt couldn’t rally…and happy that Tiger was on the front page of the leaderboard. His putter betrayed him (a lot) today, but he still has tremendous game.
Great Masters. Can’t wait for the British!

Kelsmom, Scott does in fact anchor his putter to his collarbone. And he defends it too. For that reason I could not root for him.

I must admit that I generally dislike golf since it’s my husband’s “mistress” and sucks up all our money and his time, but yesterday was fascinating. I would have loved for Snedecker or Kucher to win and for Freddie to have been in contention yesterday, but it was not to be. I do like Angel. But, I am happy for Scott and the Aussies. Maybe we should have a US versus Australia tournament a la the Ryder Cup. I bet it would get great ratings. Regarding the putter, I think as long as it is still legal (rule not implemented is my understanding), I won’t hold it against Scott. As a swim mom, it feels like the fast suit controversy several years ago.

mnmomof2–take lessons and learn to play :D. It’s a great way to spend time with your family :D.

As for the anchored putter, I have to agree they need to go. You can still use a long putter and not anchor it. They are going away. I don’t see it as being any different then when they changed the groove standard or limited the size of the driverhead. Technology and techniques evolve otherwise we would all still be playing with persimmon woods.

SteveMA - at the moment, both of us cannot play. One of us has to deal with driving the younger kid around, errands, housework, and all the other stuff that happens on weekends (we both work full time). I would LOVE to have the time to play. It’s a shame that golf takes so much time. I am hoping my teenager decides to take it up again, then at least he will get some time with his dad. He did not have the patience for it when he was younger, but recently said he might like to try again.

Sort of old news at this point, but the shirts that Jason, Dustin and Sergio were all wearing were an Adidas promotion. They all wore the same shirts each day of the tournament. Problem was, Sergio and Dustin tanked on Friday, so Jason was the only one who got much TV time the remainder of the weekend.

OMG!! We had friends over to watch, and were watching about 15 minutes delayed on the DVR (due to beverage and bathroom breaks ;)). I of course had added the usual 30 minutes extra on the DVR that it always prompts you for on live events- but with the playoff it went even longer…and the recording ran out as they were teeing off on 10  .

I felt SO BAD!!! But people were actually very good sports (to my face at least ) and all went to their smart phones to find out what happened. I can’t believe I made that mistake- we were all so wrapped up in what was happening. Sheesh! Well, I won’t let that happen again.

But also, I can’t believe that didn’t happen to a lot of other people who recorded it…at least I hope I’m not the only idiot :D

Also, regarding sponsorships. Apparently if a relatively unknown player (Marc Leishman for example) starts doing well in the first day or two of the Masters, it’s not unheard of for a big name sponsor to contact the player’s agent on Friday night, cut a deal and literally have their logo sewed onto the unknown’s hat or shirt THAT NIGHT, so he can be wearing it the next day!

“But also, I can’t believe that didn’t happen to a lot of other people who recorded it…at least I hope I’m not the only idiot”

I’ve done it so many times I now make sure I record at least two hours past the scheduled end of coverage.

Sponsors do the same thing in tennis re endorsements.

Ok, after starting this thread I totally neglected logging on throughout the entire Masters. I was glued to the TV (and the computer during the non air time) so I am late to the party. Nevertheless, OMG, WHAT A GREAT FINISH!!! Can you believe that iron by Angel Cabrera on 18? And did you notice how he asked the crowd to quiet just before hit? Such concentration. The end really came down to a matter of maybe a half-inch: His chip on the first playoff hole touched the lip, and his putt on the second hole did the same.

I don’t know about you guys, but I just absolutely love playoffs. As they were coming up 18, I didn’t care so much who won, just that there would be a playoff. But a sudden death playoff seems almost unfair. To go to that extent, only to have it end so quickly. I can’t imagine how that must feel. I would love to see an 18 hole playoff like the US Open, or even a 3 hole playoff like the British and PGA. Anything to prolong the suspense! :-)

Ask Greg Norman…

The Masters used to have an 18 hole playoff on Monday. There were six of them, and some pretty good ones! I would have probably gone to the last two 18 hole playoffs.
