I didn’t know the history of the playoff’s at the Masters. But looking at that post, Hogan lost two playoff’s by one stroke. That is amazing!

It’s also easy to see why the Masters changed to a sudden-death playoff immediately after the excitement of Billy Casper going mano a mano with Gene Littler for 18 holes. Most of the patrons probably had a beer and curled up for nap in the Georgia sun by the time they went 6 holes. A veritable black hole of golfing charisma!

^It really is! My H was at the Masters last week and is now at the Heritage this week in Hilton Head. I have the tv on watching and saw him in the background in a shot of Ernie Els.
Fun! Wishing I was there!

Yes, and how many of us can watch everything on a Monday? The networks would certainly not want that. It is also getting pretty dark by the time they finish, especially after this year since they enlarged the potential size of the weekend competitors. But it would still be nice to have at least a three hole playoff… Maybe a three hole playoff on Amen Corner! Wouldn’t that be cool!

How did the Masters decide which holes would be part of the playoff? Is it always the same?

The playoff used to start at 10 and continue on the back nine until it was decided. I don’t recall one ever going past #11 – the infamous Larry Mize chip in through the heart of Greg Norman.

The playoffs start on 10, then go to 18, then repeat 10 & 18 until someone has a lower score on a hole.

Turns out we could have had tickets on Sunday, had we stayed in town. I am actually glad we left, because the weather was miserable … and it’s too hard to see over the umbrellas! We had much better seats in our dry home than we would have had on the course.

Harrington stayed next door to my in laws, but left early - we saw his legs on the back deck through the trees, but I restrained myself from walking out into the backyard & staring. FIL was working out at their club Tuesday afternoon & saw Rory and Dufner (and his trainer) in the fitness center. We were all around town, but we never saw any celebrities. It’s so much fun in town during that week!
