I bought my MOB dress (Alex evenings, long with jacket) and MOG dress (floral, long on me) from the Dillards in-store dresses. But MOB was back in 2016 when they still carried petite.
I didn’t want to do mail order but did so last year to try on a variety of options. I think you can order to be delivered to Dillards (or other store) then return right away if you don’t like it in the dressing room. I opted to have home delivery, return to store.
For my MOG dress, bought about 8 dresses from NRack to end up with one I liked. Returned the ones didn’t want at Nordstrom’s. I did the same procedure to find a white dress for my mom’s funeral. There really wasn’t anything I saw that was appealing to me in person and very little in my size.
Wow you guys are awesome!! @BunsenBurner that’s a beautiful dress. I normally can’t do a high neck but that is SO pretty!
I also like the middle one of @Hoggirl three - I like the first one a lot too but would not feel comfortable for this purpose with a bare back. The middle one is halter but has more coverage.
Gonna keep some close if I decided to start ordering!
If you find a dress you like that feels a bit to casual for the cermony, you could add a jacket or shrug. That of course adds another shopping chore (I did that, but for warmth/flexibility reasons since it was an all outdoor event).
Out of curiosity, did any of you consider Rent the Runway? Have been getting ads from them and it made me think of this thread (although lots of the “occasion” looks seem intended for younger women.)
I did but you can’t tailor the dresses so that was a dealbreaker because I’m not tall enough to wear most dresses without alterations. Not to mention other areas that require a nip/tuck.
I haven’t bought from them in quite a while, but their sizes were pretty standard. I’d say if you’re between sizes, you mught prefer the smaller size. But again, it has been quite a while since I’ve bought something there so that may no longer be the case.
