The most impressive thing you can do in college!

So what would you like to do before you leave your under grad? you can list it all. You can be sarcastic or realistic, so go ahead and let your self free!! What is the most impressive you saw in your college career? who did what?
P.S- There is no particular reason for this thread except to share some WOWs!

Follow in the footsteps of Teddy Roosevelt and win both a Nobel peace prize AND a congressional medal of honor

Take 28 credit hours, all in math, physics, and computer science, and maintain a high GPA. And then take 31 next quarter…

Become independently wealthy and/or learn at least 5 languages.

finally get a girlfriend

My goal as an undergraduate is very simple, a 4.0 gpa, and a 40+ on the MCAT.
Oh, and have a good time while doing it. :)

For me all the most impressive stuff is accomplished outside the classroom. Travel the world. Do an interesting internship. Work for an awesome company. You have so much freedom to do so many things right now- take advantage of these four years!

Also, I think what’s really impressive is the foreign exchange students who come to America and study for a long time. (or any exchange student who studies in a different country) I can’t imagine that kind of pressure, all while being so far away from your home country, family, and friends!

@plumazul: Chyeah…you and every other premed in existence.

coming out of this finals week winning, which is unlikely

@October47 - Totally agree. I firmly believe it’s what you do outside of class that makes college truly matter.

What would I like to do, let’s see… studying abroad used to be a goal but I’m not sure I’ll be able to at this point, ah well. Getting a fun, high-paying internship would rock. Getting a great girlfriend would also be very nice.

Good luck finding an internship that pays, let alone a ‘high-paying’ one! I guess depending on your major you might be able to, or maybe if you found one particular internship. An internship is not really something you do for the money.

yeah, for a lot of business majors as well as all engineering majors, high-paying internships (relatively speaking I suppose; $9600+ before tax for three months’ work sounds good to me) aren’t too hard to come by. hell any accounting major worth their salt should be able to get a well-paid internship if they get good grades and know how to interview well.

A dude I know got an internship (between sophomore and junior year) for $5400/month + free food + free apartment (in Palo Alto - so that is worth A LOT). Another dude I know got $35/hr (also between sophomore and junior year) but I don’t know if there were any other perks.

I can’t speak for other majors but unpaid internships in engineering are unheard of and if somebody tried to offer me or the people I graduated with one we would laugh them out of the building. That other majors allow such a thing to exist is an absolute travesty.

But to get back on topic I’ll answer this from another perspective, being an ancient 2010 graduate. Looking back the things that impress me the most were falling in love, learning to cook, getting an internship all three summers, locking up a job halfway through first semester senior year, and throwing two parties that people still sometimes talk about.

I have a few simple goals for graduation:

Maintain above a 3.75 GPA
Complete a triathlon
Maintain the friendships I’ve made
Open myself up to more people
Take classes that I enjoy in addition to the ones I have to take

I feel like these aren’t necessarily unreachable, but I’m more of a small goal-setter than an overarching goal-setter, if that makes sense.

…what i wanna do in college… lemme see…

1. jump off the grand canyon

2. pay a visit to europa(one of jupiters moons) every month

3. travel at warp speed(courtesy: star trek)

4. build a time machine and meet leonardo da vinci

5. meet an extra-terrestrial being(this one is my favorite)

…hope you now get my point…

I have quite a few friends with $8,000 a month internships, plus free food, but no free apartment. Though an apartment that costs 2600 a month per room would be pretty nice, even in New York.

I don’t know about engineering majors, but I do several physics majors who have offered to do internships for free without any benefits, and yet many engineering firms have turned them away. Unfortunately, most students not in a professional program such as engineering or accounting don’t have much leverage, and in most companies’ perspective, have very little to offer the company. Thus, the majority of students in non-professional programs have to practically beg for unpaid internships.

On topic: Acing quantum mechanics

Sleeping more than 8 hours a night the two weeks before finals.
