The most interesting book(s) you've ever read?

<p>I know there’s a topic about books that you have (dis)pleasure in reading but it seems that most people come and talk about displeasure more. Thus, i start this new thread to talk about books that you suggest others to read.</p>

<p>I’ll start:
The lexus and olive tree( I like it more than the world is flat actually…too elaborated)
The idiot.</p>

<p>Probably
The Red Tent
and
Ella Enchanted  (still love that book…)
oh yeah, and Queen of Fashion (aka that book about Marie Antoinette"</p>

<p>Let’s see:
The Book Thief
The Art and Zen of Motorcycle Maintenance
Frankenstein
The Alchemist
Fade
The Great Divorce
The Screwtape Letters</p>

<p>There’s probably more I’m not thinking of.</p>

<p>World War Z: an Oral History of the Zombie Wars
Atlas Shrugged
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Gulliver’s Travels
and all of Bill Bryson’s books</p>

<p>Catch-22.
How to Win Friends and Influence People.</p>

<p>One Hundred Years of Solitude.
Macbeth.
The Little Prince.
The Giver.
The Picture of Dorian Gray.</p>

<p>There are probably more, but those come to mind first…</p>

<p>the sun also rises
the old man and the sea
the catcher in the rye
obviously, the harry potter books</p>

<p>Freakonomics.</p>

<p>The Road
Fight Club (lot of philosophy in it, interesting to think about why everyone pushes towards self-improvement)</p>

<p>I second The Road. It is superb.
House of Leaves is terrifying, but I was so fascinated while reading it. The format is unlike any other I’ve seen.
Paradise Lost is interesting, though quite dense. I liked the Biblical references (scores and scores of them) and the integration of Greek myth into the story.</p>

<p>Cryptonomicon
East of Eden(highly recommended)
Blood Meridian(better than The Road IMHO)
Godel, Escher, Bach</p>

<p>The Count of Monte Cristo</p>

<p>I read Candide in seventh grade and my life was changed. </p>

<p>I also love Swann’s Way and Catch-22.</p>

<p>I second Freakonomics.
I loved 1984 too.</p>

<p>1984</p>

<p>Brave New World</p>

<p>mrs dalloway</p>

<p>Romeo and Juliet
Pride and Prejudice
Angels and Demons</p>

<p>1984
The Picture of Dorian Gray
The Stranger</p>

<p>The Closing of the American Mind
Atlas Shrugged
The Road to Serfdom
Capitalism and Freedom
Beyond Good & Evil</p>
