The Music Thread

So this is a general music thread, the main purpose of which is to share opinions about music (Captain Obvious). I’ve posted a bunch of vids on FB and a couple on YouTube – I have written about 25 songs and a few are decent. Music has been a giant part of my life, including the honor of being my first love. If you want to friend me on FB to see those vids or for the opportunity to have my life opened up a bit, please PM me. I feel like after these several years, i’ve spoken to some of you at least 50 times, which mitigates the “weird” aspect. Heck, I can spot an @ucbalumnus post without (or before) noticing his or her name at the top.

Anyway, I love Mozart. And not just his more famous works: I love his piano concerto in A (#23 I believe, K488) and his clarinet concerto (forgot the K ID on that one.)

I like Mozart too, but I rarely listen to classical music. I hate most operas, but love The Magic Flute - I’ve seen three or four different versions of it. I’ve got eclectic tastes - Simon and Garfunkel, Metallica, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Rhiannon Giddons, John Prine, Richard Thompson, Buddy Holly - they’re all good.

I don’t like most musicals and I have a limited tolerance for rap and hip hop - though I can appreciate it, I don’t really enjoy listening to it much.
