The new Caitlyn Jenner

277, Oh that goes to show I don't follow them. She certainly looks younger than the Kk.

He might have gotten more respect that way, but on the other hand, the media circus about his transition is drawing attention to a situation that many people don’t know much about and bringing it into the mainstream. There’s some value in that.

I think after all the years she spent repressing those urges (or being shamed after being discovered giving in to them), she very well may. If I were a betting woman, I’d wager that she will love every minute of it.

ā€œIt is the same reason some people hate cheerleaders or beauty contest contestants. So they are attacked for being shallow or dumb or dressing sexy or whatever else.ā€

Wait, it not PC enough to find someone dumb or dislike clothing choices? But it IS crazy knee-jerk PC to respect Jenner’s choices, even if not one’s own?

Some of you forget how much of our lives is governed by external expectations and to some extent, the preferences of others. All this self-congratulating about being oneself misses how much we all adhere to guidelines in different ways, at different times. In my own estimation, I’m myself whether barefoot or in a business suit or looking dreadful or fabulous. Otoh, i ty to moderate some of the ā€œreal meā€ when called for.

And to whomever suggested Jenner may just be odd, we don’t know yet. For now, I can go with what simple observations are in front of me, reserving judgment.

I agree with those saying she will revel in it.

It’s like when a teenager is able to wear makeup for the first time…wear her first pair of heels…curl her hair. She’s going to have a great time. I know during the special I believe, Caitlyn was pretty excited to show Kim her outfits and makeup.

ā€œMaybe so. Perhaps she will revel in spending hours a day fixing her hair and makeup, just so she can walk outside, with television cameras waiting to catch her on an off day.ā€

This was a photo shoot for Vanity Fair for goodness sakes. Why would you project that therefore she will ā€œspend hours a day fixing hair and makeupā€?

And if cameras were going to be pointed at me every time I left my house, I sure as heck would ensure my hair and makeup were done and I looked nice. I’m not being critiqued in People and Us and the Natl Enquirer; are you?

"If the shoes fits … my jealous comments fit certain posters and they know who they are. Not everyone thinks KK is hot and not everyone is jealous of her. That is obvious. That goes without saying.

One of these days, Vogue will ask a band-geek to be on the cover. Yeah. KK has been on the cover of all kinds of magazine, that must really suck, she must really hate all the attention from men."

Who here do you think is jealous? I think I’m quite pretty if the truth be told. I don’t need to envy KK. I wish her well like I wish anyone well.

I for one, blame the Kardashians for the whole promposal thing.

That goes for the Duggars too.

Doesn’t it strike anyone that a 20 page thread is plenty of proof folks are interested? Our reactions may differ (and yes, some of the arguments are silly,) but we’re here. We’re putting her in the limelight, too. Granted, this started because Jenner is public. But I think this shows we eat it up.

Now, CNN commented that the glamour presented could do disservice to some who can’t present as Caitlyn does. So think about that and consider how you react (or even snicker) in real life.

Well, yeah, of course! I think they are probably responsible for Homecoming Mums too, and quinceaƱeras.

I think there is a dichotomy that has happened with this thread. There is the Bruce Jenner becomes Caitlyn Jenner topic. And the Kardashian/how to dress like a lady topic. I think they are both worthy of discussion, but the back in forth is hurting my brain.

Maybe.

So far the media circus aspect of the coverage doesn’t do anything to try to explain the ā€œwhyā€ behind the compulsion to alter appearance and assume a new name. That its such a famous person so attuned to the spotlight does make it seem to some like a willful choice…a bid for hyper publicity and the shot at a lucrative new career as television star.

If Caitlyn’s show is merely a voyeuristic look inside her new life as woman, I’m not sure it will help dispel myths and misconceptions ---- such as the earlier highlighted comment that God creates male and female with no blurry lines ---- rather than reinforce the belief that ā€œHollywoodā€ is out to destroy the American family.

It might be helpful if the show could introduce the public to other, regular, nonglamorous people who are transgender and let them tell their stories. Or bring on experts to discuss fetal brain development and the chemistry that has to occur in just the right sequence to produce gender identity that is in sync mentally and physically. Then again, if the show tries to get to science-y probably a lot of people won’t watch it.

You just answered your own question.

I think this is correct. And I also think that most of this publicity is to generate interest in her new show. I usually would never watch a reality show, but now I might watch this. As she said, she wants to make money, as she has to pay the bills. She’s not looking for privacy, this is what she wants.

Well, I can’t present as JLo does, either. Or any number of other women I can find on the cover of a magazine. Disservice!

As to KK, hmm, is there anything about her that I’m jealous of?

Well, I would not want her ample behind, but as someone with very little back there, I guess I’m envious of just a l’il bit of it!

I think her face was very beautiful, incredibly so. However, I think she is over botoxing, and now it no longer looks natural, which at her young age is unfortunate, imo. Of course, what is beautiful and sexy is all very subjective. Which is fine, until it starts going into the territory of moral judgments, character assassination, and psychological diagnoses by people who are by and large not qualified to do so.

I find it rather interesting, in twenty pages of posts, mostly about appearances, not one mention that Caitlin is a Republican. Oops, not looking as great to some now, I think.

Bus, you are too much. Haha. I don’t watch TV only listen to the news occasionally. What does FOX news have to say about that?

She freely acknowledged that during the ABC interview. It’s common knowledge.

I guess we can blame the Kardashians for a lot, but not the promposal. Some people put the origins on TV show Laguna Beach. Others say it started with that movie 10 Things I Hate About You. I loved that movie. Remember Heath Ledger singing to Julia Stiles from the stands?

Caitlyn also said that she thinks she can persuade Republican politicians like Mitch McConnell and others to support trans legal rights. I think she’s a bit naive, but there’s no harm in her trying. In my experience, people on the left can be every bit as transphobic as people on the right, and more so in many cases.
