Don’t care if she’s Republican. She’s not campaigning for office or, afaik, promoting a candidate now.
Fox news covered it pretty well.
Except for this doofus:
DrGoogle, I don’t know what Fox says about it. I heard it from my local radio station. Apparently there was a shocked silence after he said that on Diane Sawyer’s show. Though, I have to wonder if a more prominent Republican had decided to do the same thing, that people would have still shown the same love and compassion. People such as Jon Voight, Clint Eastwood, or Mel Gibson.
Actually, when I was working in the Bay Area , we did receive an email notice that a person is going to be called something else as he was usually called. And that was it. This person was in IT. Except for being very tall and skinny with bearly noticeable chest, I don’t think anybody care as in we didn’t make a big deal about it. I wasn’t sure that was the person the email mentioned even when that person came around. Transphobic, no.
busdriver post 292. - no, since in my hypothetical where paparazzi are waiting in the bushes, it wouldn’t require me to spend “hours a day on hair and makeup” to look good before stepping out of the house. Maybe 5-10 minutes. It’s just isn’t all that hard.
Mel Gibson is Republican?
I was only aware of him as a prominent anti-Semite.

Trailer for those who’d like a peek and something more to cat about ;).
“So far the media circus aspect of the coverage doesn’t do anything to try to explain the “why” behind the compulsion to alter appearance and assume a new name”
You really can’t figure out why a male-to-female might want to alter her appearance and take a feminine name?? This is a mystery??
The “why” I was referring to isn’t about why a male-to-female wants to alter appearance (duh)…it’s about the “why” it is that a child is born with normal genitalia and male/female characteristics yet from a very young age is compelled to identify as the opposite sex.
And yeah, it’s still a mystery.
"Mel Gibson is Republican?

Does he vociferously say anti-Semitic things, or was it just that one incident when he was drunk? I don’t know, I don’t really follow that stuff.

Hey, it’s no mystery to me. To not have to deal with body fat? To be able to pee standing up? To cover my wrinkles with a beard and have gray hair to look good on me? Now as far as wanting to go the other way, THAT is a mystery.
You guys didn’t go to top schools, but if you did it wouldn’t be a mystery. For me I went to TTT so I don’t care.
NYT Op-Ed: The Price of Caitlyn Jenner’s Heroism
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/03/opinion/the-price-of-jenners-heroism.html
I’ve read a bunch of this thread, but not all of it. I can’t keep up. Forgive me if this was already posted, but I didn’t see it here…but I really like the point that Jon Stewart makes:
Namely, Jenner’s transitioning to a woman brings on a whole other set of baggage that comes with the territory of being a woman…her physical appearance is the subject of scrutiny, rather than her mind or other attributes or achievements. Even on this thread, in addition to many media outlets, a lot of talk is about her looks and body now that she is a woman! Welcome Caitlin to the world of being a woman and all that comes with it!
“You guys didn’t go to top schools, but if you did it wouldn’t be a mystery. For me I went to TTT so I don’t care.”
Heh, I surely didn’t go to a top school. However, it was free, so take that!
Now if I’d gone to a top school, maybe I’d know what TTT was. Or how to make up a funny name of a school that the acronym TTT stood for.
@ donna L-
Yep, transphobia isn’t necessarily a left or right thing, there are plenty of lesbians and gays who are transphobic or look down on trans people (lot that don’t, fortunately), there are whole groups for male crossdressers (men who dress up as women for whatever reasons, but aren’t interested in transitioning, aren’t trans) who are openly transphobic, there are very liberal politicians who have made it a point to keep trans protections out of rights laws, and so forth. After this whole thing hit the press, I listened a bit to some talk radio stations, 90% of the people were calling Jenner a pervert, a
“hollywood weirdo” and so forth, lot of bad jokes, but the sad part is I also heard some pretty stupid things on supposedly liberal programs as well.
I think it is okay to criticize the way she decided to come out, she kind of blew it in my opinion because after so many years associated with the Kardashian circus, ‘coming out’ in a sense in a Vanity Fair photo shoot comes off basically as more of the same. To me, it isn’t that an older woman shouldn’t be glamorous, shouldn’t be trying to look good in ways that make herself feel better, I happen to subscribe to the Dylan Thomas idea of fighting the good fight against getting old, I just think she would have better served herself, and also quite frankly the cause of opening people up to the issues of trans folks, without doing that spread, at least at this time, it comes off as more of the circus, more of the fake reality show that is the Kardashians and so forth, it comes off as sensationalism, exploiting a life change for cheap publicity, rather than being an honest attempt to talk about who she is and what this all means shrug. As they say, there is a time and a place for everything, and I think if her pr person said this was a great idea, might want to find a real pro if her goal is to be taken seriously. She is doing something brave, it is hard enough doing this as an ‘ordinary’ person in many ways, doing it in the limelight already makes it rough, but she is going to make it harder on herself by turning it into even more of a circus shrug.
I believe TTT is the old “Third tier toilet” reference from the old pre-cc days of the princeton review college forum.
Here’s some info on the 8 episode series premiering in late July:
http://www.eonline.com/news/662536/caitlyn-jenner-starring-in-new-e-docu-series-i-am-cait
My take on Caitlyn’s appearance is that she has been very influenced by years of living with Kris, Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, Kendall and Kylie and their tremendous focus on their physical appearances. Photo shoots, modeling, professional hair and makeup are routine events for the Kardashian and Jenner women. I wonder if Caitlyn would be a very different woman if she had never crossed paths with Kris Kardashian.
Even if it’s not and she meant something else, jym, that’s a great slam!
Ouch!
It there another meaning for TTT in the college conversation world?? I didnt mean it as a slam-- thats just what it meant, at least as far as I recall.
**ETA I just read the urban dictionary definition and they say it was in reference to law school applicants putting down “lower” schools.
drgoogle- what did you mean?? I took your reference to going to a TTT as very tongue in cheek!
