The new Caitlyn Jenner

I really like the wrap dress look on her.

I can’t even find a pair of Jimmy Choo’s that fit and I usually can squeeze my feet into a size 11 shoe. Maybe a Jimmy Choo size 43 will fit, if I’m lucky. But there’s not many of those to be found.

I’m very tall and I wear heels. Not big platform ones though.

Pressured to wear heels? I’ve been around a long time and never experienced that, Romani.

If heels work for you - great. If not, there are plenty of cute options.

No pressure to wear heels, either. I wore them to work when I was younger and wore business dress. Nowadays I wear them more for special occasions, but simply have no need for everyday. I agree with BB that the black pointy toe slingback is a terrific basic shoe to have. I’m wearing my own (not Jimmy Choo, out of my price range!) to an event in August. It’s a shoe I’ll wear for years.

Good for her that she’s got a good stylist. Maybe her Kardashian family could learn something from them instead of the gaudy, trendy tight fitting look. Kim K can’t help her build but by god, there are ways to dress that are more flattering.

And I too did think Kate Middleton with one of the pictures.

ā€œIt shows how broad her back is, especially in proportion to her hips.ā€

Hey, that’s how I look from the back!

I think Kanye is dressing Kim.
And wonder if the first dress is Diane
Von Furstenburg.

A 6’2" woman with outstanding calf definition is going to look great in the array of dressy ballet flats available. I would certainly explore them in her position.

I find wedge styles far more comfortable than other shoes of similar height. When I was in college, thick, chunky heels were in, and those were great for me. I’ve never been able to wear a stiletto of any height. At 5’9", I don’t have to worry too much; I only wear 3" or higher if I’m going to be on stage. I found mid-height wedge sandals for my wedding, which is in a park district space. I don’t want to have to worry about my heels sinking into the grass!

Wedges are great! Maybe I’m in a wrong industry or on a wrong coast, but I have not noticed any pressure to wear heels. Even female attorneys here don’t wear them if they don’t feel like wearing them.
Tricks and tips for wearing heels: look for a shoe that ā€œcagesā€ around the foot and has a strategically positioned heel that distributes the pressure of the body weight evenly (think the shoes worn by ballroom dancers - they know what works and what does not!). Anything taller than 3 inches is a no go in my book - unless you wear size 12 shoes, or the shoe has a platform bringing the actual rise down to a reasonable height. Pigalles = No, Tribute sandals = yes. For everyday wear, pick shoes with 1/2-1 inch heel. Flat flats are just as bad for the feet as stilettos. Just ask an ortho doc. Always go shoe shopping in the evening, when your feet are tired and swollen. Take the pair you consider buying for a spin around the store, don’t try them on carpet only. I always hand my purse to the SA and tell him that I would be back in 30 seconds after I test the shoes on the tile floors of the cosmetics department. the look on their faces is priceless.

/off my shoebox.

Yeah, I don’t see ā€œpressure to wear heels.ā€ I myself wear lots of ballet flats. I like Repettos amd if I had the money I’d buy in every color. And I’m not particularly tall.

I doubt she is wearing those shoes because those are all she can find, You can get shoes from Zappos and Amazon in that size, and there are a lot of resources in finding women’s shoes in larger sizes, too, these days, in part because women’s feet have gotten bigger. Even payless on the cheap end carries larger sizes, and I think Nordstrom’s does too, so she has choices. Plus there are some custom shoe places that aren’t that expensive relatively, you can design and order your shoes for around 200 bucks or so.

It is good to know that the usual ā€œgrass is greenerā€ thing cuts across to the trans community too. Tall? wanna be short. Short? wanna be tall. ā€œsoftā€ arms? Want toned arms! curly hair? want straight. Staight hair? want curly!!! lol!

If she just got access to all this cool stuff, and could aford it, why not have some fun with it?

BB if there’s no pressure to wear heels, I think you’re on the right coast not wrong :stuck_out_tongue:

As for being tall, when short people complain about not finding pants that are the right length I counter with ā€œwould you rather hem up your pants or attempt to add material?ā€

Exactly! I don’t understand why they make pants so short when it’s so easy to hem them and so impossible to take them down.

She’s demonstrating that if you have the right shoes, they’ll complement a lot of different outfits. Good for her that she’s having fun with it all and looking classy and dignified.

Then again, maybe she’s just wearing shoes that she likes. Not trying to set an example of what sort of shoes one should wear. Perhaps they just look and feel good.

I can’t believe that people (including me) are spending any of their life discussing the specifics of CJ’s shoes. But it’s just too dang hot to go outside.

I agree, @busdriver11 : When you find something that looks good, you wear it, regardless of gender!

Also, I just wanted to thank everyone on this thread, again, for being so kind and supportive! I’m responding to a backlog of awesome PMs. I guess nothing’s really changed–I’m still utterly undecided on anything related to transition–but I did ā€œcome outā€ to a IRL friend and collaborator. He’s an expert on trans issues, so he seemed pretty safe and was basically like ā€œcool, whatever. Let me know if you ever want me to start using male pronouns.ā€ Also, I’ve realized that I’m far from the only trans person to go through stages of ā€œyeah, maybe I can live with being [birth gender]ā€ to ā€œyeah, I need to transition ASAPā€ and back and forth, so that’s been normalizing. I honestly thought all trans people were like ā€œI need to transition now! No doubts! No hesitation!ā€ and it made me think for the longest time that I was just ā€œfakingā€ how I felt.

In other news, completely unrelated news, the academic job market apparently starts… now. It’s surreal (and terrifying) to think I’ll actually be applying for faculty jobs in a matter of weeks! Wish me luck?

Good luck with your job search, psych_ !

@psych_:
The best of luck to you on your job search! As far as trans people being so sure of themselves, yep, that’s me, that is more a figure of fiction then fact, I think that someone who is facing that kind of thing and not have doubts, not be scared, is a bit suspect, and I suspect what you described is probably something a lot of trans folks go through.

Best of wishes to you, psych.

Continued good wishes, psych.
