Hi, I’m an international student and I’m aiming for tier-I school. Well the schools I’ve shortlisted require only two subject tests. So I had planned to take only two subject test and get perfect scores. But will it give me an edge if I take three instead of two subject test and get good scores in all of them, even if I don’t get three perfect scores? I was initially afraid thinking that preparing for two tests would be better than preparing for three, but I’m willing to try if it’s worth it.

Most Tier 1 Schools of the ranks of HYPMS et al would be happy with subject test scores of 750+ per section. If you can strive to get such a score, I personally think that you will be able to effectively convey your subject prowess to these universities.

The more high score tests the better. They say they only require two but if there are 3 or 4 780-800’s sitting there they will note it.

2 is the minimum, but 3+ with 750+ will really hit it with adcoms. Not even, even in USA 650-700 is pretty decent.

Two tests are mandatory. If you think that you can score 750+ in more tests, go right ahead.

Usually its two required tests because the third subject may or may not be related what you are doing in school and its a tad bit harder to prepare for it. You will see what I mean when you see what your Subject Test Options are. I could only take MathIIC, Physics and Chem. But if you really can pull a 750+ off then like everyone said, go for it.

How much did you get on the pcm sat2s, aviator?

I dont really remember but I think i had a 790 on Math and similar on Physics and Chem. I did the worst on Chem I believe.

Georgetown is the only school that REQUIRES 3 SAT IIs. Other might recommend it. Make sure Math 2 is one of your SAT 2s though, and the other one a science subject.

Oh and if you’re good at something like French, Spanish, Chinese, USH, WH, etc. then give those SAT2s also! Adcoms might like that :)

So … if I want to pursue engineering at one of the top schools, does it help if I have a German sat 2 cause I really love3 the language and plan to continue with it, even though my school doesn’t offer foreign language after 11th.

If the score is good, it helps. Not significantly, though, for engineering. If its a bad score, and because SAT II has no score choice option, it might detract from your application, but again, not significantly.

Take 3 tests in my opinion if you know you can do well in all three. And the scores/subject that you should get depend on the college and the rest of your profile.

I’ve already got back my 750 and above scores, so thanks for replying!

hey if u are aiming for a social science subject in college which subjects should you take for the SAT?

something related to your field? And the rest to show your academic versatility.
