I don’t think that’s the case anymore. They switched to a first come first serve basis. Or maybe that’s just for summer.

When I SIR-ed to UCLA, I wasn’t required to make a deposit for it even though I didn’t list that I needed financial aid or anything like that. Is anyone else not required to make a SIR deposit too?

@babyberguy Congratulations, only special students are not required to pay the SIR deposit. You should be proud.

got in!! who’s going on SEND (9th) and also the 10th?

I wasn’t required to pay a deposit to SIR. I have no clue why, but when I get something free I just take it and run :-)

@CollegeDropout1

What makes these students special? I didn’t have to pay the SIR deposit fee either, but then again, I’m poor.

@Cayton Yeah, poor people don’t have to pay the SIR deposit. So, I guess I won’t have to pay it either.

I have a relatively high EFC, and I didn’t have to pay. I wonder if anyone who qualifies for Blue and Gold is exempt from paying the deposit…

I don’t know if it’s relevant to the SIR deposit, but I’m transferring from a UC to UCLA… though, it shouldn’t really make a difference.

I’m poor as well, but had to pay the SIR fee. However, I did get the blue and gold, so that’s something I should be grateful for.

Yeah I got blue and gold and a low efc but I still had to pay

It’s like UCLA just chooses at random the applicants who won’t have to pay the SIR fee.

Does anyone know what housing complex is available for transfer students? All I have been able to find is this
http://map.ais.ucla.edu/portal/site/UCLA/menuitem.3f8e7342ad4ca217b66d4ab4f848344a/?vgnextoid=faab878bbd712010VgnVCM1000008f8443a4RCRD

@flux, if you opt for transfer themed housing and get it, you’ll be in de neve gardenia. Check that out online.

If you don’t get gardenia, “the highest concentrations of transfer students tend to be in Rieber terrace/vista, sunset village, and the university apartments.”

I’m hoping to live in Gardenia next year so I’m putting deluxe residence halls and transfer themed housing as my first choice. But I’m not sure if I should put plazas or classic residence halls as my second choice. I would like to live around other transfers rather than freshman and also live in a social environment.
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

@Lilyblue12

Socially, residence halls are said to be better than plazas. So, if you’re the kind who is or wants to be social, then put down classic residence halls as your second preference.

Anyone else afraid of getting a bad room mate? The cons out way the positives imo.

Room mates can steal, be inconsiderate, screw on your bed and desk, use your stuff including bathroom supplies and food, sabotage your work, etc.

@BurntCorpse, I always thought I was the only one!!
I am terrified of getting a bad roommate (or roommates), and I believe if you want to change rooms, you get charged a fee. Does anyone know how long the housing assignments are for?

@burntcorpse @anthroflo my cousin goes to ucla and lives in the university apartments. Heard her roommate steals her snacks all the time and parties with her sorority buddies near the finals period, so my cousin has to lock all her food in her suitcase and when its near the finals studies at her neighbors place. She’s naturally tolerant, but I can’t say the same for myself. I’m afraid if I get a roommate, her antics will cause me unnecessary stress.

Why don’t you just live off campus. Look on craigslist, at least this way you will have some control over who you share housing with.
