I know and he took the whole class to a film festival! He also filmed each class session…

I had a FA question, I was hoping some of you would shed some light upon it. I am doing my FA right now. I see that that Fed Pell Grant is giving me the 5,700 for the year. But per quarter is $1,910. I see other options, such as Direct Subsidized Loans, Direct Unsubsidized Loans, and Private Loan. Just reading some of what these loans are, I am assuming I will just eliminate the Direct Subsidized Loan(Since it is a Loan and Work Study). I do not plan to work while I am at school. Just estimating, how much would you figure, I would need to barrow. I will be living at home, so, I won’t be living on campus or paying for rent.

Other aspects, I did fill out a Cal Grant, but I missed the deadline. But will I need to reapply when it opens up again? This is what it states.

Any help, would be great.

Well, since you are living at home, the only real out of pocket thing is going to be tuition, in which should be covered if you end up sorting out the Cal grant.

If you want money for incidentals like books, food, etc then take out the amount you want for the subsidized loan because you won’t have to pay interest on it until 6 months after you graduate (essentially free money).

Subsidized Loan.
This is a need-based fixed interest rate loan awarded to undergraduate students who are enrolled at least half time. The lender is the U.S. Department of Education. The student does not have to make payments while enrolled at least half-time and for 6 months after graduation or dropping below half-time. Loan interest starts accruing at graduation. The interest subsidy is eliminated for students who remain in their program of study beyond 150% of the published program length (18 quarters). To find more information about the terms of this loan, access the Guide to Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Loans through the link on this page. Interest rate is 4.66% for loans with first disbursement on/after July 1, 2014 until June 30, 2015

The only thing that throws me off is “The interest subsidy is eliminated for students who remain in their program of study beyond 150% of the published program length (18 quarters)”.

Unsub

This is a non-need based, fixed interest rate loan awarded to undergraduate, gradate and professional students. The lender is the U.S. Department of Education. The borrower (student) does not have to make principal payments while enrolled at least half-time or for 6 months after graduation. The borrower is responsible for all interest that accrues from the date of disbursement. To find more information about the terms of this loan, access the Guide to Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Loans through the link on this page. Undergraduate interest rate: 4.66% for loans with first disbursement on/after July 1, 2014. Graduate interest rate: 6.21% for loans with first disbursement on/after July 1, 2014.

Honestly, just wanting to know what the difference between these 2 are, besides the obvious interest rate.

P.S. I really thought Machida was going to win. Good job by Weidman.

Basically the UNsubsidized has interest accruing immediately. Subsidized loans don’t begin accruing interest until 6 months after you graduate or stop attending school. Interest also begins accruing once you reach 150% of the units needed for your degree.

How they award them to you is based on your need.

I see, so… Best option would be a subsidized loan.

One last question(I promise), what exactly does Interest also begins accruing once you reach 150% of the units needed for your degree mean?

Ok, a subsidized loan, the interest begins to accrue after graduation, meaning the loan isn’t collecting interest while you’re in school. An unsub loan, even though it has the same payment terms as the subsidized loan, it is gathering interest from day one. For the sub loan, the government is paying your interest while you are in school, so that’s why I said it is like free money.

Machida is too defensive, while Weidman is a lot more active with his take downs and striking, so I knew he was going to win all along just waiting for Jones to get beat…

In regards to 150% of your units:

If you need 180 quarter units, total, to complete a BA, then when you reach 270 units, then your interest on a subsidized loan will begin to accrue.

Geez, this online courses required by UCLA are so dumb and uninteresting. I’ve learned absolutely nothing from them. They’re designed for sheltered 18 year olds that are crawling out of their moms basement for the first time to go to college. At one point it says “you probably won’t be able to go out and buy your own alcohol when you first arrive at college.”

They should make some designed for non-traditional students and not subject grown-ass people to these videos for kids. Good thing it doesn’t matter if you answer wrong. Just keep picking until you get it right. But then the website sucks and crashes and it makes you watch the video you just watched all over again.

@RamonaFalls

I’m not surprised that it would be common sense. Still, a lot of 18 year olds starting school at UCLA lack it, so perhaps it’s for their own good.

Don’t know why they assume transfers are just as ignorant, though, since we tend to be older and nontraditional students.

I laughed when they had you “pour” the drinks until they all contained the same amount of alcohol.

I’ll make sure to only have exactly 5oz of wine per hour.

If there was a degree for drinking beer, then I would already have a PhD.

@CSB111

If I have more than one shot of hard liquor in an hour, everything will go to ■■■■ or something. That’s what I assume the videos will say or something to that effect.

@Cayton

The videos reminded me of when I was 14/15 and being mystified about alcohol.

Soon after, those mystifications became a true reality for a couple years lol. I’m not really a drinker anymore, but I put my time in for a good two years. If anything, the videos make me want to crack open a beer.

@CSB111 I’m with you! Now I want a beer too!

I just got my official Degree Audit Report, and found out all my CSU classes transferred!!

UCLA here I come!!!

Congrats @2016candles! So excited for you! :x :x :x

^^^ Thanks! I finally feel extra official :x

And you SHOULD! It’s nice to find this out before orientation.
