@CollegeDropout1 Yeah, for me, I feel like I am going to waste my time taking a bunch of the Econ classes, they don’t actually teach you any practical skills (most of them). If anything, I learned more in my accounting classes.

I think Physics or Applied Math could lead me into engineering fields, CS fields, medicine, and finance too (if I wanted). But I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with math and physics.

Oil and gas is definitely a good backup, but I think your heart was with CS anyways. I’ve realized there are a lot better ways to make money/have an enjoyable career than going into some **** government job or what everyone and their mother wants to go into.

@CSB111 If you think that about you major, then you should definitely change it. Just make sure that you can handle upper division math. Physics is a very good route to engineering and CS. To be honest, I mostly wanted to do CS because I wanted to stay in California. However, my perspectives on life have change. I realized that if I wanted to discover new oceans, then I couldn’t be afraid to lose sight of the shore.

@lindyk8 - in my experience with Amazon books, they are typically in like new condition. I wipe them off with Lysol cleaning wipes. I’ve received some rentals that were brand new. I find books ordered earlier in the semester, are in better condition. I’ve never received a book, that I though “this is really crappy”. Not even my $8 used book.

Typically, online vendors will give you an idea of the condition of the book you wish to rent. If they don’t, I would recommend against engaging with them.

@BurntCorpse I know that you wanted to attend UCSB and UCI. I don’t know how you feel about UCLA now, but you can still change your SIR. I know this is late, but all you have to do is request a late SIR to the UC you want to attend. They may not accept it, but at least you can try.

I’ve never rented from amazon, just bought used. But rent means you give it back and then it’s recycled again to someone else. I’m just thinking how many people have coughed on it? I also read some schools are using books that are customized for the class and are simply downloaded to iPads etc. at great savings. I doubt UCLA is doing that.

Sonic, I’ve read that the textbook budgets are usually way overstated in the UC expense columns.

I don’t think history books are really all that expensive. For one, you can find a lot of books on PDF. Second, you can always get an older edition of the book. It is not like history changes. What happened 100 years ago is still the same. It is not like science, where new things are being discovered everyday.

@CollegeDropout1 Yeah I’ll see how things are when I go to orientation. I might switch into Math of Computation, but Id want to take an intro CS class first. Who knows. Physics is doable unit wise but it’s a big undertaking.

I think my problem with Business majors in general you learn a fixed set of information, but not really a way of thinking and figuring things out.

Personally, I’ve loved the books I have rented from Amazon. Always in good condition, readable, etc. Just make sure to hold onto the box to ship it back, which is free :)

I just spent the last hour trying to make multiple versions of a schedule. Even knowing that some courses are being held, we still have no idea how many spots or anything.

Will give orientation feedback tmrw!! At the overnight thing right now. We play some icebreaker games and then stroll around Westwood where we eat dinner. At a pizza place now.

yes @randombookie I have been told by several people, and I believe that it is in some of the emails from UCLA that we should bring a laptop in order to register for classes.
