I wonder if an ipad works.

I’m pretty sure an iPad or tablet will work fine. I use my iPad for almost everything except writing papers or working on spreadsheets.

I have used mine to do everything on my.ucla. I’ve even used my phone.

@OCaptnMyCaptn I heard they’ll have computers there for anyone who doesn’t have a laptop, so I think you’ll be fine

I had a few questions about the Health Insurance, I was hoping somebody can shed some light upon it. I currently work so I have my insurance, but I am going to leave work soon, and plus, my health insurance was GAR BAJ and will need insurance(going to do all 3, health, vision and dental). I am currently on the UCOP website for UCLA(Link below). So, a couple questions I had were, one of the options says, “Registered Students”, it will be nearly 600 per quarter for all 3. Does that mean, I have to wait till I register for my courses? The other is Voluntary Students. Not sure what that is, but coverage will be nearly 1k per quarter.

http://www.ucop.edu/ucship/campuses/los-angeles/ucla-enroll.html

Second question, where do I enroll? I looked around, I did not see anything. Only thing I saw was, Dependents of registered students enrolled in UC SHIP. And finally, when does the insurance kick in? I am tired of my crappy insurance. Oh sorry, 1 last question, is the insurance PPO? Health and dental.

Thank you in advance.

Personally I would not bring a computer. What, you’re going to carry it around all day? Plus if you’re spending the night it could get stolen. I told my daughter just to bring her ipad. The counselors will have computers.

There is only one computer per counselor, and my counselor was relieved i brought a laptop tbh
The day goes by pretty slow to me

Yeah, I’d recommend a laptop. However, I think a tablet would work if you have one.

A little update of what we’ve done so far:
7:30: check in

8:30: meet up with NSA (New student advisor) and get in small groups of 6-8 people within your major.
(Tip: If you already have your bruincard you might as well show up at 8:30)

9-10: Bruin initiation at fountain and whatnot

10-11:15: how to enroll and register seminar

11:30-12:30: lunch at the place with all the fast food eateries (can’t remember name)

12:30-1:20: more seminars on academic regulations and the police department

1:30-2ish: departmental meetings with fellow majors

2:30-5: optional workshops. You will make an apt for about 30 min with NSA during this time to discuss your plans regarding class registration which takes place at 7pm

@Zalrons Class reg is at 7? I thought it was over at around 5. I need to figure out pick up times… Was the fountain fun?

Nvm, I see checkout is 9pm…

FYI, iPads are fine as all you need it for is schedule of classes, myucla, major depts, etc, all accessible.

I wish I had an iPad or tablet it would be easier to carry around than my heavy macbook

guess what guys I got my family housing offer today!! Im so happy

@lindyk8, it’s kinda cool and funny. You do like a 45 second oath haha

And yeah, final registration starts at 7pm. I wish it was at 5 (before dinner) but oh well!!

They have student discounts for apple products and refurbished @sonic23. I will say, like Candles, I do almost everything on the ipad. And watching movies on it is great. I have the big one but actually prefer the mini ipad I got my kids.

Are they paying for dinner?

I do want to get one I might just stop by the ucla store this week to look at some
and @lindyk8 I think all meals are paid for

@Zalrons Have you gone through with degree audit? Is there anyway we could do that part at home? Also, thanks for keeping us updated on the orientation process.

I would really like to prep a list of viable classes to take and I have some idea on which classes I would need, but need that degree audit to know for sure which classes I’m transferring with counts for what.

Hope classes that I need will be still available by the time I go to orientation. I tried to get the first session but ucla site was incredibly laggy (understandably).

@jonjon03
Your DAR may already be available on my.ucla. Mine is. They are updating then based on orientation dates. Mine is next week, and it was finished last week.

@2016Candles Thanks, I did run DAR but it seems like only my AP scores got credited but none for the transfer classes. Interesting though, under the Transfer Evaluation tab it lists nearly all the classes I have taken and their equivalent counterpart for UC.

@jonjon03 it may not be final yet. I freaked out when I first saw mine, but once it was finalized it was all good. When you run the audit, and you have to click on a green icon to open it, is the icon more of a rectangle or a check/ triangle? If it’s rectangle then it’s not final. If it’s a check/ triangle it is final.

How do you guys think one would go about changing their major? As @zalrons says you get into groups of 6-8 for the major you got in as. Should I just stick with my major and just switch over during the school year or try my best to do it during the orientation

@frankyD
I am wondering the same thing. I’d like to talk about something other than the major I was admitted for. I’m assuming you would probably just wait though.

@2016Candles It’s a green box with the rectangle in it (look at icon key and it’s for “in progress”). I’m not too concerned at the moment really just want to figure out which classes I should take for first quarter. Also, thanks for the replies.

Does anyone know how the parking situation is for UCLA orientation for people who does the overnight stay? Thought about flying but might be just easier to drive there.
