The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

wow the think about it course is horrible its so boring

It was hard to get classes for me. You need to have like 4 class backups and multiple discussion backups for each class just in case. Its so booked. Disappointed that IDS and regional studies majors get last pick because we are interdepartmental and they dont save upper division courses for us. Its ridiculous. But yeah, meeting with your departmental counselor was helpful

honestly thought orientation was a waste of time, except the enrolling part of course

For anyone who had orientation today, were you able to get classes in your major? If so, how many? How many units were you able to sign up for?

@2016candles, you can only get 2 classes in your major (at least for psych). everyone signed up for 3 classes, no more no less :)

You all need to have a plethora of backups ready. That was insane. Bring a laptop for your sanity. Please don’t rely on a tablet.

@‌2016Candles
R u a sociology major? If so things r not looking good for u. I had 2 sociology majors in my group and they could only register for 1 upper division class and the rest had to be upper division electives. Apparently sociology is super impacted. For the other majors they only let you register for two upper division classes. Good luck getting classes;)

Yea I’m a Soc major. That doesn’t sound promising :-(

@Zalrons‌ - what was the issue with having a tablet?

@jonjon03, if you requested the DAR it should be ready soon depending on when your orientation is. You should just call them and expedite the process.

@frankyd, I have no idea. It likely depends on what you want to change into though. I met someone that was changing majors and they simply signed up for the remaining prerequisites for the major they wanted to change into during registration.

@2016candles, every bit of time is valuable. A laptop is simply easier to use IMO. You can go with a tablet and likely be OK but I think those with the laptop were glad they brought it. Bring a charger for whatever you bring!

Do you register for your classes alone? Or do they sit there with the counselor and do it?

How does it work for you to register for a class that is “closed”? How are you able to access the classes they “hold”? Do you sit wit a counselor or do they give you a code or something?

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have SEVERAL back up classes to choose from. I had a list of 15 potential classes, and was only able to add the three ranked at the very bottom of my list. Don’t rely too much on courses that say seats are reserved for incoming students, because they literally only opened up one spot for each of those courses during the first session (for my major, at least).

Oh, and arrive at 8:30. I did, and missed nothing. Checking in and picking up my BruinCard took two minutes tops.

@CSB111, You do it with the NSA. My groups NSA was looking at our screens to make sure we didn’t jump the gun because they make you go 2 at a time. Well, at least that’s how my NSA did it. My NSA also asked what class I signed up for immediately after I added one. I already miss my JC’s website and enrollment process.

Another thing, I think the saving spots for transfers is bogus. Idk how it went for others but the only thing they saved spots for in my major was the GE classes.

@Zalrons Bogus is definitely the word for it. Everyone in my group was beyond upset.

If it says closed you’re not going to be enrolling in the class during orientation. You can hope for a PTE (petition to enroll) code in the beginning of the quarter but that’s unlikely since they’ll probably go to waitlisted students anwyays.

It’s a pain in the ass to enroll because of so many restrictions they impose on you. Can’t have finals on the same day, you have a very limited selection of classes that are even open, you can only take 2 major classes (out of 3, the last one has to be an upper div in another subject, at least that’s what my student advisor did for polisci).

Yeah, I’m not sure how the “saved spots” work for students in later orientation sessions. All I can say is GOOD ****ING LUCK.

@purplewedding, I was shocked and am still slightly upset over the whole enrollment process.

The worst part is over for us at least, we’ll have a first pass and second pass like everyone else now for the rest of our UCLA years.

@k4201505, seriously though. What’d you all say on the survey at the end? I tore them a new one.
