The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

Sounds horrible guys! I know a couple history majors went today because more classes filles up lol

So were ■■■■■■ great!!!

I don’t even know what I’m going to take at this point since I’m on the fence about majors. I guess honors Linear Algebra is calling my name :((

I guess I can hypothetically just enroll in whatever. All the accounting classes are full, as well as CS and stats.

yeah it was horrible. I kind of expected it though since ucla is a public institution.

This is ironic, but I felt MORE disconnected from UCLA after orientation. It was just a bad day for me personally. I didn’t get the classes I want, it was really hot, I didn’t feel spirited, and the people i came across weren’t very friendly except the student advisers and faculty.

What did you guys think?

@k4201505‌

Just curious, were you able to get some Polisci classes that you at least wanted?

I can’t imagine an ipad would slow anything down. It works as well as a laptop IMHO.

You guys who went today, what are your majors, if I may ask?

I was able to enroll in my first choice classes, so I was fine. Its just that there wasn’t a lot of selection of courses offered to begin with. I’m an International development studies major so I could choose from a lot of disciplines.
I just looked at the syllabus for one of my classes and I am already starting to prepare for it b/c it looks like a lot of work.
Oh and people who brought ipads just ended up using other people’s computers. It seemed to be not as efficient. An ipad user borrowed my computer.

Really? Maybe there were connection issues. Well I guess my daughter will be lugging a computer around all day. :((

Due to the update from first wave of people coming back from orientation, it seems like there is no one really there to help you in the enrolling process. I decided to get a head start and check out Fall 2014 schedule and so far only bad news.

So I decided to try get Chem 20A and two comp sci classes. Chem 20A appears to be only available for first year freshman students, so I’m not sure how I am ever going to fulfil that weird requirement. I can only find one comp sci class, CS M51A, that I can take for fall quarter. Since I’m getting my IGETC certified I’m not even sure if I can take any GE classes.

Were there anyone from orientation that couldn’t find classes for their major?

I’m glad to know that I might not get the classes I want or need. :/

@cayton, dude, I wanted to take an elective in philosophy so bad but all the good classes were restricted to philosophy majors :((

@Zalrons‌

:)

We need those classes. There’s probably enough competition as it is with our fellow philosophy majors. Which classes were you looking at?

Well I really wanted to take either 133, 175, or 177B. Now that I look at it again, I’m not even sure I would’ve been able to enroll even if they weren’t restricted because of the required prerequisites though.

Just make sure you look up final dates and times, the required prerequisites, and have a good lengthy list to pick from. It seemed like most of the classes I saw were T/R. And then you have to worry about the discussion times which are also slim pickings.

You should be fine though just put in some time getting completely organized so you aren’t overwhelmed!

I know there hasn’t been a lot of positive feedback from 201 yet but we’re all tired and cranky lol. It’s a long day of having info thrown at you and walking everywhere. Up until the registration, I didn’t think it was all that bad at all.

@zalrons Its not an impacted major and I am only missing one class for the prereq. What major did that person get into and what major did he switch to?

A lot of people will need to sign up for elective courses this quarter, which you also need to complete your degree. It won’t be so bad next quarter.

Any Biz Econ majors mind suggesting classes to take as soon as possible? I realize that we can only sign up for 2 upper division + 1 elective. This would be a big help, thanks!

@goodjobdaveman I’m wondering the same thing. We have to take Econ 11, 41, and 101 first to apply into the major, right?

@Zalrons‌

Ah, those classes are pretty interesting. I’ll consider taking one of those classes before leaving from UCLA. What does “T/R” mean?

Also, today has been an interesting day. I got my student copy of my IGETC certification from my CC today. They mailed it to UCLA a couple of days ago…they told me it would take a lot longer, but it only took about 4 weeks to process the certification request. Now I’m all set for UCLA! :D

…and I just completed jury duty today. I served on a criminal trial and the defendant was accused of committing assault with a deadly weapon(The defendant, I kid you not, stabbed his sister two times with a pair of scissors) and making criminal threats. We voted guilty on the assault count and couldn’t decide on the second count. He had a serious criminal record and had committed many felonies in the past, including robbery, assault, and drug possession with intent to sell. It’s hard to believe I was selected to serve on the jury. It was an informative and valuable experience! :)

@Cayton‌

T/R means Tuesdays and Thursdays.
