The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

Have you guys finish those required online courses yet? Just got started on mine, but it seems we would have to finish

 1. AlcoholEdu
 2. Haven (is this mandatory?)
 3. Think About It
 4. Debt Management Session (I believe you’ll only need to do this if you taken out a federal loan through the school)

Do I need to do the Haven course? For the debt management session do I need both entrance counseling and financial literacy?

Also, not sure if this help other people planning out their classes, but for those classes that appears to be only be available for first-time freshman you can add it by gaining a pte or talking with the department.

@jonjon03, yes you need to complete Haven as well! It only takes like an hour or so. Don’t forget there will be a part 2 for Alcohol Edu and Haven.

Whoever brought up Biz Econ, you need Econ 11/101 to declare the major. Econ 41 is required but it isn’t counted in your GPA for declaring, so there really isn’t a rush to take it this quarter.

I am probably just going to take Econ 11 and then two math classes because I don’t know if I want to stay in the major. The accounting classes I wanted to take are full or waitlisted, and I’d going to hold off on any computer science classes because I heard the intro classes during the first quarter suck because of the curve.

So, is anyone else putting off those online courses UCLA wants us to take? I really don’t feel like taking them now, but plan to do so this weekend.

ocnative, I only managed to get one class that I was interested in regarding polisci. The time isn’t the best though and I have no idea how the professor is like. There isn’t any time to look up reviews of professors. All the other interesting polisci classes were full.

@Cayton It’s really not that bad…but yea really tedious. I finished the alcohol one, but the haven one has been half finished for 3 hours (lol). The due date was originally 7/28 but I believe it has been pushed till early August. I still haven’t sent my photo id, which I should.

Thanks for the info, @jonjon03

Where do I even find all these classes? I’m too lazy to look right now. Please help me be lazy. Thanks!

@2016Candles I try to simplify it as much as possible, but it may look a bit messy.

To Find Classes/Courses

-Go to http://my.ucla.edu/</a>
-Sign In
-Click on “CLASSES” tab > under “Enrollment” click on “Find a Class and Enroll”
-Click on far right option where it reads “Enter Subject Area (Required)” and find your major
-Click on “Go” if you know which class to look for then enter specific title or number
-Ignore “ERROR” message, basically saying you can’t enroll till orientation
-The exclamation icon under “Info” in a particular class/course listing has info on requirements and final exam date
-Pick classes where final exam dates are not the same, someone from orientation reported that they couldn’t enroll in classes with intersecting final exam dates.

Figuring out which Classes/Courses you Already Have

-Go to http://my.ucla.edu/</a>
-Sign In
-Click on “ACADEMICS” tab > under “Academic Profile” click on “Degree Progress/Audit Report”
-Click on “Continue to DARS”
-If your like me, you won’t have an official audit report yet but you can still see which classes got transferred
-Click on Transfer Evaluations
-I’m not sure how they actually compiled the list, but my guess it’s from your self reported application (seeing that they don’t have grades up for Spring semester for mine)
-Here you can see which classes got transferred, any equivalent class for UCLA where the course number starts with a T I believe means that there is no equivalent class for UCLA, but you’ll still get credit for it.

Figuring out which Classes you Need

-Computer Science
-Sample 4 year plan http://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/curric-13-14/25curcompsci13.html</a>
-Guide of classes/planning sheet http://www.seasoasa.ucla.edu/undergraduates/worksheets-all-majors/CS_2014-15_061814.pdf</a></p>

-Basically google “UCLA ~your major~ 4 year plan” or “UCLA ~your major~ requirement” which should yield the info you need.
-Interestingly I can’t seem to find sample 4 year plans for other majors outside of engineering related majors.

I don’t think this is the definitive way on accurately planning out which classes you would need, but it should give you a good idea.

@jonjon03‌ you are so awesome for typing all of this out. But when I was really asking about where the classes like the alcohol course and all those extra classes that we have to take in the next week or so.

I’m sorry I should’ve been more clear.

@2016Candles Woops, hopefully it can help some one out. Here is the email I got from UCLA for the online classes:

Please note that the courses are currently open and we have extended the deadline for completion to Monday, August 4th. Many of you have already begun or completed AlcoholEdu and Haven. Thank you for your participation! If you haven’t started, please go to www.alcoholedu.ucla.edu for login instructions, information, and links to support services that can help answer any questions you might have. You don’t have to complete the programs in one sitting; in fact, we recommend that you complete them over several intervals, for a more effective experience. The courses are designed to be engaging and interactive, as well as informative.

I’m sure that info will help many people!

Thanks for the info on the other courses. I do remember getting an email this afternoon.

HELP. I wanted to waive the UC SHIP fee bc I have my own health insurance so I don’t want to pay for UCLA’s.

But I got a UC SHIP grant for $1800 (approx i don’t remember)? Is that covering my UC insurance completely or is that only part of the sum?

Also, if I decline the uc ship grant, do I just lose the money or…?

OMG @2016candles, lol.
I have a question about overlap. What about those friggen one-hour discussion classes? Most are closed, but what if one overlaps another course? Can you still get in and just rearrange the discussion hour later?

@randombookie‌ - I’m 99% positive that the grant covers the entire insurance. You should really keep it if they gave you the grant, so that way you’ll have additional insurance at no additional cost to you. If you waive the insurance, then that Grant goes away.

@lindyk8‌ - you can’t have any overlap. Those discussions can kill your schedule. It really sucks because you have no idea which discussion you might get. I think that’s one of the main reasons people are saying to have 20 different versions of the schedule.
PS I’m glad you’re amused by my laziness  I think I’ve given enough decent to good advice to warrant one night of laziness on the forum :-)

@2016candles that part is really bad because most are closed and then I hear ppl switch them around after anyhow.

I don’t know what people do “off the books” so to speak, but on paper, there can’t be any overlap. That includes with final schedules. So many parameters… I’m glad my orientation is next week, so good or bad, I can stop stressing as much about class selection.

is it true that we won’t be able to make changes to our classes/switch classes until Sept. 23?

Yep, no changes allowed. MyUCLA locks down your ability to add classes until the 23 of September. Did any poll sci majors on this thread go to orientation yesterday? I totally forgot that I was going to try to meet some of the people on CC.

So if a class says " For —, some seats are held for entering students who enroll through New Student Orientation. Any student may enroll beginning September 23, 2014, space permitting, and continuing students historically have been able to enroll" we won’t be able to enroll in that class at orientation unless it’s part of our major correct?
