The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

Maybe my daughter will see you in it sometime @sonic23! She def wants it at some point. I schooled her well on all things Beatles. B-)

@2016Candles‌ I actually wasn’t laughing. I just decided to put the scratching under the chin (like a dog) because I was wondering when does anyone use 2/3 of those emoticons and decided to buck the trend with obscure ones. I see that is doable. :-B

@tinydancer13 I believe September 28, but not sure.

Actually, you know when we get the notification from housing that tells us our actual move in date and room mates that were assigned?

@tinydancer13‌

Move in day is in late September. Sept. 28, I believe, as @jonjon03 said.

@jonjon03‌

I heard that we may know who our rommates are in August. Not sure, though.

Can somebody do me a favor and link me to course sections(meaning, to see how many seats are still available, and whatnot). I cleared out my history by mistake, and I just want to see what courses are around and etc. Thank you.

NM, I found it.

Move-in day starts on Thursday 9/25 until Saturday 9/27.

http://www.truebruinwelcome.ucla.edu/

I’ve read on various posts that we get our room and roommate assignments sometime in August.

@sonic23‌

Where are you looking for your electives? i am looking at the link below, and I am not finding anything that I really want to take, lol. Some of the courses, such as History of Motion Pictures, I would like to take, or something similar, but I took that at my CC. I hope I can get into my Pre-History courses, but would like to look around for interesting electives as well.

So, if the class we want is closed on Sept. 23, do we get on a waitlist or get a PTE? Im a bit confused on this.

@randombookie, if there aren’t any WL slots open I think you try and submit a PTE.

@Zalrons‌ Can you enroll in classes that are waitlisted at orientation?

@CSB111, you should be able to if there are open WL spots open. I’m not entirely sure but I don’t see why not.
It seems like if there are spots on the WL, there aren’t many so I’m sure most people eventually get enrolled off of the WL.

Yeah, a lot of the management/accounting classes have open WL, but then a lot of classes I’ve seen have no WL and they are closed, but I guess that might be because they open them back up for each orientation.

I’m going to grill the orientation people so hard come August 11, lol.

Went to New Family Orientation yesterday. I’ll try to answer some of your recent questions.

For parents: presentations are geared to parents of freshmen. It’s not helpful to have your transfer child there. If you have a transfer specific question ask afterwards. If you’ve already done a campus tour, you might skip this one. You might do the housing tour to reacquaint yourself with how much room there really is. Bring a midmorning snack and drink. Walking is from the Hill to Moore to Pauley Pavilion, back to Moore then fair then tours.

Classes: every session has classes open up for students even if it says WL or closed. Your advisor may try to manually register you for a class that has those designations. Then all available classes open up to everyone on 9/23 and are available for registration through the 2nd week of a quarter. They will not allow you to take classes in which the final falls on the same day. Starting Winter quarter, enrollment priority is given to those with the most units.

Move-in: email in late August with room/roommate assignment. You can change your move-in appointment online by 4pm 9/19 on move-in website. Move in is a one hour window assigned between 9/25 and 9/28.

Hope this helps!

Anyone apply for the TAP scholarship? I never heard anything about them receiving so hopefully it got there. I think they inform us on Monday.

@csb111, i applied for it. we hear back on Monday, regardless of whether we will receive the scholarship or not

Thx for info @UCLAParentOfKid‌ . One question, where do the parents meet? I haven’t gotten any info. It sounds like it’s at the top of the Hill.

Re: the ongoing concern about closed classes, not only what @UCLAParentOfKid‌ said above, but also over at UCSD thread I saw the same thing: there is space reserved within seemingly closed classes.

Does anyone know or belong to AAP? I remember filling out eop section on uc app, but haven’t really heard anything back from doing so. I was wondering if it is worthwhile to try and join aap. The only reason I tried and join eop is that I heard from a UC students that eop students have priority registration (not sure if it’s true or not). I’m not even sure just joining aap will give your priority registration, but if their join their sub program PLUS then you may get priority. Any info on this would be much appreciated.

Couldn’t edit my post for some reason, but I should have used search before posting. Seems like I needed to get an email from aap and I never got one so I guess I’m not part of it. I believe I fall under as a low income student, but I’m not exactly an under represented student so I guess that determines eligibility for aap. Also, it seems I totally ignored honors program for ucla (another way to get priority), but I don’t think I would’ve qualified (gpa was less than 3.75). You guys know any other way to try and get priority registration?

I don’t think any of these give you registration “priority”.
