The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

No. UC San Diego is also a great school, especially in the STEM fields.

Thanks, what courses did you register for? I have somewhat narrowed down my choices. History 114A- History of Rome to Death of Caesar.thought about History 119D England in the Middle Ages(Not so sure about this, the prof I believe is fairly young). The Ruski course I wanted, that was closed, has now opened with a spot, not sure I want it either, only a 10 person course, and my assumption is that most of the students will likely be fluent in Russian. History 140B US 1929-1960. American West is another I like. Pretty excited.

I got a 97D corse, A Jewish History course, and a Scandinavian course. You NEED one elective outside of history they won’t allow you to take three history courses. The course on England in the middle ages I believe that teacher has bad reviews in bruin walk double check that though. I wanted History 114A but it didn’t fit my schedule.

Well, even if you’re stuck with a bad professor, at least you don’t have to worry about a bad grade in his/her class ruining your academic career. You’re already at UCLA!

Oh, and I believe I have a class with the professor who teaches hist 114A—I’m taking hist 113A, which is the history of Greece. His name is David Phillips and a lot of students don’t like him. Quite a few do, though.

@cayton my sister keeps telling me that as well. But I’m scared because my professor at cc said to get into grad school even csula you need at least a 3.4 GPA

But also keep in mind that while UCLA resets your gpa, when u apply to Graf school, they count your entire gpa including CC. So it’s not like you’ll be only judged by what happens at UCLA. I’m not saying you won’t do well, I’m just trying to put it in perspective :slight_smile:
@sonic23‌

@2016candles yea your right I’m kind of glad I had a pretty high gap at cc just in case lol

so one of the textbooks I need for a class is over 2000 pages long and thats 1/4 books required. :-S

114a’s professor is LANGDON.

Yikes, @cayton, that didn’t look too encouraging.

@lindyk8‌

The reddit link or the professor I mentioned?

I think the people posting on that reddit forum did well with their UCLA degree.

I was referring to the reddit link. For me, it looked kind of bleak. But you’re only seeing a handful of ppl. Biggest takeaway, start the job search process fall of senior year.

@lindyk8‌

Yeah, definitely.

@sonic23‌

I think you’ll be fine if you study hard. Since your GPA at community college was about 3.8 or so, you should earn a similar GPA at UCLA. I saw a study by UCLA(Or was it Berkeley? Think it was UCLA) that examined the GPAs of incoming transfer students and they found that their GPAs at UCLA, on average, didn’t deviate much from their GPAs at community college.

So if you do your best, you should get at least a 3.6 GPA, and maybe as high as 3.9 or so while at UCLA.

Well, today is the day that my community starts school again, not sure how to feel

Feel accomplished that you’ve reached your goal. And feel ecstatic that you still have 6 more weeks of summer vacay!

@2016Candles‌

lol, UCLA is starting pretty late this year.

Summer vacation is going into late September, pretty much.

I guess I’m the only one here taking summer classes :/

I am taking summer. I am taking 2 4-week classes that end Thursday. Soooo much work. I’m actually freaking out because I think I’m getting an A- in one if them :frowning: I’m such a nerd :-)

This summer is too long and too hot.
One more month or so.

@2016Candles‌

If you’re freaking out over A minuses, I think you’ll do just fine at UCLA.

I never thought I would say this, but I wish school started earlier. I’m super excited!

@2016Candles I have been in that same exact situation my entire academic career.
