The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

I move in, but I’m not sure what to do now

@Zalrons small world man.

My roommates and I have zero communication. It’s miserable. They were friends and I got stuck as the 3rd wheel. There are some cool people I met on my floor but it’s pretty much all 2nd years.

@Zalrons‌

…Interesting.

@music1990‌

Hey! Move in went mostly well, although it was a little hectic in the beginning, lol. UCLA’s been great to me so far. The food is great, the people are nice, interesting, and sociable, and the campus is so big and has so many stairs that I’ve been getting an excellent workout just getting from place to place. This may explain why there are so, so few overweight students on campus. Everyone looks fit, I kid you not. Classes will start on Thursday, and I can’t wait to attend them!

How’s Berkeley going for you so far? Are the classes manageable? How’s the social scene there?

What I’ve doing since I’ve moved in:

Using up those swipes in De Neve, Covel, and other places.

Strengthening my legs with all this damn walking around campus.

Seeing what the campus has to offer.

…And meeting random people from college confidential. Two so far. :D

@CSB111, sorry to hear that. Try joining the transfer club:) I think there are at least 3 of them

@cayton, you going to Bruin bash?! Who’d you meet besides Luke?

I’ve been to Feast and it was alright. Nothing too crazy.

Hey @Cayton, Luke, Zalrons,CSB111, randombookie!

How’s UCLA treating you so far? Are any of you guys going to the transfer welcome tomorrow?

@Zalrons‌

Na. I decided to go home instead to visit family and get some stuff. How’s Bruin Bash for you? And yeah, Feast is cool, but not too special, so far. I prefer De Neve the most right now; it has great food all around. Had a sandwich from Cafe 1919 that was seriously whatever. The mocha drink was great, though.

I’ll be sure to try Bruin Cafe when it opens. Rendezvous, also.

Besides Luke, I met @cochoa14(I did meet you, right? I may be confusing your name with that of someone else’s. If that someone else is here, please correct me).

@cochoa14‌

I’m loving UCLA. I’m happy to be here and I can’t wait to exploit the social and intellectual opportunities that it has to offer me.

I’ll probably go to the transfer welcome. I feel kind of bad for missing the chancellor’s welcome, even though others who went said that it was more of the same.

@cochoa14 Yeah I’ll probably go. I went to the career center today and talked with someone there, they really helped me out. Other than that I’ve just been walking around and trying all the places to eat. I didn’t really like 1919, the pizza was too greasy and I waited in line for way too long. I like De Neve and Covel (not crowded) the best so far.

Hopefully I’ll run into some of you. I randomly met someone tonight who was a transfer and we had a lot in common, so thats good. I thought about checking out frats but they make you pay, so I passed. I did see a bunch of incoherent drunks vomiting tonight though…lol

@cochoa14, really loving UCLA and LA in general. I’ve been to Santa Monica a couple of times. So cool! I’ll def be going to the Transfer welcome. How about you? You going to the welcome? How do you like UCLA?!

@cayton, I went to the movie and it was pretty good. Glad I didn’t try to get a ticket to the concert. A couple people on my floor said it was lame. That’s so cool you’ve ran into some people from this forum! Any suggestions on where to swipe into for breakfast?

@CSB111, yeah, hopefully we all run into each other! Where on the hill are you living?

@everyone, if you’re looking for a job at ucla, cce (campus events commission) is opening applications online tomorrow. I’m def going to apply. It seems like a cool job!

@Zalrons‌

Heh, they said that about the concert? I went home today, so I haven’t had the chance to ask the people on my floor who went what they thought about it.

I’ve only had breakfast food at Covel, I believe. They had scrambled eggs and bacon during brunch, a classic breakfast that was pretty good. Then again, it’s hard to screw that up, really.

I’d go to Covel or De Neve for breakfast. Most of the dining halls should also have cereal and milk dispensers so that you can get a bowl of cereal. They have every kind that you’d expect. Covel also had some tasty-looking waffles, but I didn’t eat them.

Honestly, breakfast food seems a lot easier to cook(And hence, way more difficult to ■■■■ up), so I’m sure that all of the dining halls have great or at least pretty good breakfast food.

I’m so excited for you guys!

@ Zalrons.
My experience at UCLA has been pretty good so far. I’ve met a good number of transfers so that’s cool! I will be going to the the transfer welcome today ( I know it’s a long shot but, I hope we can meet some cc people!) You r staying at Gardenia right?

@cayton.
Yea that’s me. We met briefly u were with Luke at the time.

I am so jealous of all of you!

Looks like most of you are living on campus, enjoy the experience. I always enjoy the drive to school though, 405s is a bit of a pain but this quarter my earliest class is around 1130 or so, so it’s not that bad.

What do you guys think of joining a frat? I’m not into the whole drinking scene, but kind of curious if the connections made at frats is worth the trouble of going through the hazing process. Though there might be other problems associated with joining frats.

@Tik1127 I admire your willingness on commuting. I brought my car down here, and haven’t driven it sense. The driving isn’t that bad, but the parking is troublesome.

@2016Candles‌ oh hey, that’s cool. I didn’t think to search for an app for the map. I had seen the website for it and it was a pain to use on my phone. The app is much better. Thanks! Although I hope to not have to use it too much for long. I’m already trying to memorize the route I’ve plotted out for myself tomorrow.

One of my courses got moved from Haines to Broad. No idea where that is lol. Will go and see tomorrow.

@jonjon03‌

I have no issues driving, I actually find it a bit nice. I am in parking 7 structure, right by PP. I know what you mean parking is a pain, during my breaks, I am not going to drive to WWV, just walk. But every place else, I’ll drive.

I rushed frats today…It has it’s pros and cons to me. But I have way to much on my plate this quarter, and I don’t know how winter is different.

I feel like I’m missing out though. Easy way to drink/meet people quickly/guranteed parties.

Also, if anyone wants to meet up, send me a message. I’ve been talking to a bunch of random people I wouldn’t be surprised if I ran into anyone.
