The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

Where do you go to see your registration appt? I looked all over myucla but i couldn’t find it. And I’m taking a history class and it is totally killing me :stuck_out_tongue: but I love my sociology classes :slight_smile:

jk! I found my register appointment! =)) . I must be blind… lol

@cayton I’m pretty sure I’m taking 4 classes I can’t afford summer school
and the two history classes I have so far are complete opposites one is a small seminar that is very lively but the teacher grades hard, I would compare the grading to my CC history teachers who were good. The other class lecture is so confusing had the class dropped, and the assignments are ridiculously confusing but odd enough the professor seems to give As like crazy. How are you philosophy classes??

I must admit tho I’m getting mixed signals lol one professor says me essays are amazing while the other pretty much says they suck!! lol

@sonic23‌

Ha, lol that must be an interesting experience.

Mine is similar; my philosophy classes this quarter aren’t any harder than the ones at my community college, but from the amateur research I’ve done, philosophy is considered one of the hardest north campus majors and that the classes range from somewhat easy to very difficult. In general, UCLA philosophy is known for being hard, but it seems that I’m being spared from that difficulty this quarter. I’m looking forward to taking some of the more challenging classes.

@Peanut0‌
Which Sociology classes are u taking?

@luckie1367‌
North Campus majors are things like Humanities, social sciences, ethnic studies, etc. South Campus is all the sciences and math majors. I don’t know the official breakdown, but that’s the basics.

@2016Candles At the moment I am taking soc 101 and soc 111. Soc 111 is a really interesting class so if you havent taken it, I recommend it :slight_smile: . And 101 is okay. I didn’t enjoy the Marx portion of the class but found weber to be very interesting.

I’m taking 101 next quarter, along with 20. If you get the chance to take124, you should- it’s a very cool class.
@Peanut0‌

I have two questions.

Any of you guys meeting with academic counselor s before signing up for classes??

And do lower division classes count towards the 180 units we need a I graduate?

@sonic23‌
Check the degree requirements for your major. It should tell you how many upper division units you need to complete your degree. Subtract the lower division units you transferred in from 180, and see if you have room for more lower division.

@luckie1367‌

What @2016Candles said.

@sonic23‌

I probably won’t meet with a counselor, but it’s not out of the question for me. I know exactly what I want to take next quarter. Even if I didn’t, I at least know what I need to take next quarter for my major.

@luckie1367.

I thought I chime in with some thoughts and/or tips from my semester so far at Berkeley.

My Polisci classes are much tougher than they were at community college, with the reading being demanding at times. I’m actually taking a Polisci class that my advisors told me not to take because it’s rigorous for a first semester at Cal. It’s not so bad…lol :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyways, an important tip would be to get involved aside from academics. Network and look into research opportunities if it’s something your career path stresses. Don’t be afraid to explore different career opportunities as well.

Also, summer school should be a last resort at a UC. Take that time to have an internship, do research, study abroad, work, etc. Building up your resume and/or CV is important by the time you’re a senior.

Thanks @ocnative! I’d love to hear from everyone! I know talking about difficult times can suck, but I appreciate that you all are letting me learn from them!! Plus I feel like I know some of you, so I’m really proud you’re all doing so well :)

Thank you for the tip about the summers, since I was just thinking about that today. Are you going to stay in Berkeley f or the summer or come back and find something to do in SoCal?

So idk about you guys but I went to the second part of orientation last Thursday to ensure how many units I need to graduate, and the advisor told me 180, but a friend also went and said her advisor said 216. So what is it?! I’m so confused now.

216 is the max units you can have before they politely tell u to leave. 180 is typically the number needed to graduate. Some programs have higher units, but most will be 180.

In the promise land, chillin with @cayton, whats up!

Yep, I’m in @Jlop205‌’s dorm in Sproul Cove. I’ve met a lot of people from college confidential, lol

Aw, one big helpful, happy family!

@luckie1367‌

Haha, yep.

Are you guys going to use your 1st pass on major classes, or are you going to do one major class and one elective?

@nationalmuse I came to ask the same question! I REALLY don’t know what to do. The main class I want is almost full and it’s a major class but my professor guarenteed me a spot so I think I can wait on that class
