@GreatestThe - I think it is huge they changed you from being rejected to being on the wait list. I think you will get in on appeal. Good Luck!

Yo everyone,
So before my decision was posted I did the “housing trick”, but instead of making a myUCLA summer school account I made one that was for “Current UCLA students/Newly Admitted.” I was denied, so I was wondering if that has got to do with anything. For example, they could have denied me because the myUCLA system might have thought that I was already a student at UCLA. Slim chance, but I was just wondering. Still devastated that I didn’t get in. I applied to Design | Media arts with a pretty good portfolio, but sub-average grades. Should I also call in to ask why I was rejected; portfolio or grades?
@GreatestThe - Damn, nice man. Good luck, wish that can happen to me. You’ll get in!

Also was I supposed to get an email that my decision was posted? I didn’t get anything and my rejection letter was dated April 18th.

UPDATE:

This is my initial post:
Rejected, 3.89 statistics

Two of my friends applied to same major, one got rejected with 4.0 and other one got in with 3.3…
I am planning to call the admission on Monday and ask the reason of rejection

So I called the admission today, the lady said i was missing one prerequisite that my CC does not offer. But my friend got in without that class and he has a lower GPA. I think I will just attend UCSD.

UCLA still doesn’t send any congratulatory email…I just received an email sent by UCLA Housing Services…

I just realized I misreported a D+ and called it a C. This was from Fall of 2008. That semester I also got an F and accurately reported that. I let UCLA know ahead of time so they aren’t surprised when they get my transcripts. Since that semester, I didn’t go to school until 2012 and I’ve completed all of my coursework since then with a 4.0. The class doesn’t satisfy any requirements and I don’t need it. Should I be concerned? Has anybody ever heard of something like this happening?

If I was wait listed should I also draft an appeal?

@tamadate there is something wrong with the system if this is how they’re doing things. A 3.3 over a 3.89? And BTW, if your school does not offer a class you are excused from taking it in advance. You should appeal. SUR UCSD but wait on the appeal.

Will my admission be revoked if i can’t finish 4 breadth requirements? I got only 2 so far.

@lindyk8

Good for her!

They do ask some people for supplementary information, so perhaps that was what happened.

@lindyk8 Thank you for the suggestion, I will definitely try to appeal. One thing really annoys me is that on Assist, the course that is not offered at my CC indicates “No course articulated. Course must be completed at UCLA.”, so I thought I was supposed to take it at UCLA…

@tamadate my daughter got into the massively impacted Communications Studies major, and of the 7 pre-major requiremts, 2 were worded exactly as you said, her school didn’t have them, and so she couldn’t take them. She got in! To let someone in with 3.3 and decline you, still can’t get over it. Fight for it.

And that IS what it means: you take them at UCLA.

I read a lots comments here, and I think that UCLA may focus more on your personal statement. I got accepted with a not very high GPA(3.5), but I just put something which is normal but I really proud of on my personal statement, and I also write why I’m really into my major and what I think about that major. Just be real and do not oversell yourself. I hope my comment will be helpful and everyone who is gonna appeal will get admitted. Good luck!:)

@vvvccc123 I’m not sure how much emphasis UCLA puts on personal statements, but in general I do agree with you. I too didn’t have a competitive gpa for my major, computer science, but I got in some how. How my essay differed from most of my peers is that I didn’t list accomplishments (easy to do since I had none) nor did I put emphasis on talking about my qualities. I rather showed them my qualities by telling my story from my end of High School till now. I think by showing who I am rather than telling them who I am was the primary difference from the average personal statement.

@lindyk8 Congrats on your daughter’s acceptance! And yeah, I think I will start writing my appeal letter now.

I’m reposting because my question was at the bottom of the last page lol

@jonjon03 @vvvccc123

From what I have seen of UCLA admissions past year and this year, personal statements are just a big of hit-or-miss as gpa. e.g. for biz-econ and people I know personally :

4.0, TAP, unknown PS (most likely not great) = admitted
3.93, TAP, unknown PS = admitted
3.93, No Tap, 7.5/10 PS = admitted
3.67, No Tap, 9/10 PS = rejected
3.73, Tap, 6/10 PS = accepted
3.73, No Tap, 7/10 PS = rejected
3.3, No Tap, 8/10 PS = accepted

@bobby2016 I don’t think that doing that with housing had anything to do with it because I also did the same thing you did and I got in

@bomerr how are you getting the ratings for the personal statements?

@indyk8
I’ve read over 100 personal statements here on CC and I asked to read those people’s personal statements.

None of them had horrible, omg reject PS but the best PS I read was rejected from UCLA biz-econ so ya.

oh and for reference I also got rejected from UCLA Biz-Econ. 3.8 GPA, no TAP, 8/10 PS
