it won’t post the complete link but its just Facebook . com before the /groups
found this earlier today, there is some helpful posts and replies from current students on issues for new transfers. I found it pretty helpful.

I agree. Personal statements were really hit or miss for admissons on impacted majors. I think it worked in my favor though, since I was still completing prereqs and my strong PS may have given me a boost.

Yeah, missing a pre-req for an impacted major like political science at UCLA and still getting in is something most people can’t do. Congrats there, man.

They really answer in 5-10 business days
I want to withdraw from my physics class (Which is not a pre-req for life & science majors), but I want to make sure that I can since it says it makes my app stronger if I do it. The last day to drop classes at my college is this coming Monday. I’m afraid to get a C or even fail this class…

my friend got rejected with 3.92 for biz-econ, I read his PS once and I think it was okay. Meanwhile, many of 4.0 GPA (even without any activity) got in. I don’t think that is fair.

If you start expecting admissions to be fair you’ll be very disappointed. We never know all of someone’s circumstances.

Someone might look at my gpa (3.63) and think it’s not fair I got in while others who applied in my major with higher gpas were rejected. What most people wouldn’t know just looking at stats is that my gpa was lowered by 2 classes I took 15 years ago, and that my last 50+ units were all A’s and 1 B. My stats also don’t tell you that I finished those 50+ units in 3 semesters while working full-time.

So my heart goes out to everyone who doesn’t get into the school of their choice, but I worked my ass off to get where i am. Anyone who thinks it’s not fair that certain people get accepted while others don’t are being very narrow minded. We don’t know everyone’s full story.

has anyone submitted their SIR yet, if so have you been able to set up your school email address, its prompting me to set it up through google apps.

I agree with @2016Candles. I personally got into Biz Econ this year with a 3.88 GPA, which is much lower compared to your friend’s. So GPA doesn’t really play a big role. If you think your friend’s PS is OK, i personally think it may be not enough. UCLA needs PS that can impress them. And I think the 4.0 people you were talking about may have their own stories while their score is PERFECT. Especially, this is important if you compete for a spot in Biz Econ…

While I’m being thankful that I got in, I certainly think that I deserve it. I am a new immigrant (typically I think myself as International student cuz my parents are not around), I started my part time job (related to the major) since my second semester at CC, joined the Honors Program my first semester(so I’m TAP certified), volunteer at school as a tutor as well as serve at church. I also tried to make my time for researches, and got my projects presented to academic conferences and published. I read a lot and follow the news for my projects every day. I finished 19 semester honors units and among them I took 2 Honors Calculus class, which are the major requirements.

I come from an OK family and I am an only child, but I paid my own tuition and expenses last year (except for health insurance). I also got a serious medical condition the end of last year, although I did not mention it on my PS b/c i think it’s rather private. And that’s why my parents finally asked me to quit my job. But that actually turned out to be a Misdiagnosis…I was scared…but felt very lucky, too.

The first day I got into CC I decided to become a well qualified person, not only a student…but I feel bad for your friend, b/c 3.92 is not easy. My friend with similar GPA got rejected too, and I actually know that a lot of ppl with 4.0 got rejected…I think neither GPA or “activities” are important, but your own unique life experience and personal quality make a difference.

While feeling sorry for people who got rejected, I certainly think that everyone who got in deserves it.

What is it like on the other side?
I want to wait to submit my SIR until I hear back from Cal and have a chance to sit down and think about everything but I am so curious!

Are there a ton of forms to fill out? I know you have to pay for a few things right away (like the SIR and I believe for the processing of housing forms), is it credit card only?
