The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

@anthroflo it takes like 5-10 mins to complete the info. Nothing major at all. It feels great on the other side! Go Bruins! Depending on your FA you may not need to pay the deposit. I don’t know about housing,

@AnthroFlo‌

It takes like 10 minutes to complete the SIR. It’s not too much of a hassle. I didn’t have to pay for my SIR(Probably because I’m so poor), so I don’t know if they only take credit cards or not.

@AnthroFlo‌ yes, they take credit cards. It takes 5 minutes and is $100. Housing is a bit longer and is $30. If you want transfer dorm be sure to choose that theme when you sign in.

@lindyk8‌

I submitted my housing application and put down “transfer theme” as my #1 preference!

I’m pretty broke myself @Cayton‌, and don’t expect to get any richer any time soon, so I will gladly take the free SIR if they give it to me.

Even though I can’t claim to be 100% decided, I am pretty much planning on UCLA.

@lindyk8 thanks for the info. I am not looking forward to making choices for housing though :frowning:
I did check out the theme housing on their website and am a tad curious but am not sure if that would really work out because you can not prioritize any other choice over the theme (at least that’s what I understood).

I think I am going to live on campus the first year but I am pretty picky about certain aspects of my living situation. I don’t mind being social but when it comes to my living space I like privacy and quiet, sadly I can’t afford a single and most transfers are put in triples.

@cayton, I didn’t pick a theme. Now I’m conflicted. Where is the transfer themed community? Gardenia? What’d you pick for the housing? I went 1. Plaza 2. Suites 3. Res hall.

@Zalrons‌

I kinda winged it because I didn’t know much about differences between housing preferences. I don’t know where the transfer theme community is. :(

As far as preferences go,

Suite

Classic Residence Hall.

Plaza.

I don’t even know if the preferences I stated here made sense for me, but whatever.

I asked about the transfer community on the housing live chat yesterday. They said it’s on top of a big hill so that means 1. nice view 2. hikes getting back to your room.

Classic Residence Halls are the crappy rooms with the nasty communal bathrooms but cheap. Plaza are the best I guess, usually triple occupancy rooms with shared bathrooms between a couple rooms. Suites are noisy cause you’re rooming with 5 other people since you share a living room area with 2 bedrooms that have 3 beds each.

Is any one called admission office and ask why u got rejection letter or waitlist? What should i say? Just want to know why i got rejected? I can see some ppl couldnt get the reason and they just told them general thing. ( highly competive…) is it depends on who ppl with speak with?

The transfer theme is definitely de neve gardenia, one of the newest dorms. My daughter wanted suites/plazas as first choices but changed after consistently reading the transfer dorm is recommended for first time enrollees. However, not everyone gets in and she also put those suites and plazas in, although I’m not sure of order. She did hear ppl keep doors closed and don’t interact as much in suites and plazas. Kind of six of one, half a dozen of other. Either choice you lose something. I think as long as you’re on campus, it should all be good.

@lindyk8‌

Thanks for the info!!

I want to SIR and apply for housing ASAP but i’m so nervous over dropping a non-major non-igetc course. I have over 70 semester units and I’m taking 5 courses this Spring and Calc III is the only one that has nothing to do with my major. I have verifiable extenuating circumstances, but I’d be really bummed if I ended up getting rescinded. I know when I call tomorrow it will be vague and the wait to hear back will be tough.

@kokoacct I think it probably depends more on the reason you were rejected. For example if you are missing prereqs or something objective they could probably tell you. Some people are rejected for no specific reason other than there were too many qualified applicants and not enough space.

Who is all pending still? Haha

@Cayton, do you know what the “six types of Room preferences” are? thanks

@randombookie‌

I honestly don’t know. The housing application was mostly a mystery to me.

Now that I’m done excessively preoccupying over if I got in or not, I am excessively preoccupying over where I’m going to live. Right now, I’m leaning towards staying where I am even though it’s a long commute. But I don’t want to live with pesky roommates. However, it looks like I originally indicated in my FAFSA that I want on campus housing so that’s what my award letter is taking into account. I think switching it to off campus will decrease my award because UCLA is just weird that way.

Woo, just SIR’d to UCLA! See you guys next fall… now to figure out this housing application.
