The Official Fall 2014 UCLA Transfer Decisions Thread

@miinhdadream‌

In all likelihood, you’ll be able to do so since those majors are in the same department at UCLA. If your major was outside the economics department, that’d be a different story.

@miinhdadream‌

No. I am 100% sure you will NOT be able to transfer into Biz Econ. It says so in the admissions page that only admitted students in Biz Econ, sociology, psychology, political science, and a few others, can major in them.

You can try, but since it’s a heavily impacted major, I highly doubt it.

Sorry @ocnative‌ I didn’t see your question until now, but basically in my rejection letter it says; “We recognize that this decision will be a disappointment, but given the depth of the review process, we do not encourage you to appeal this decision.”

Can anyone access BruinView?

Anyone accepted to the College of Letters and Science thinking about applying for the College Honors program?

I know I have till June 1st to submit SIR, but are there any advantages to submit earlier than that or disadvantages submitting it late? Currently I waiting for Berkeley, but at the same time I feel like if I don’t submit SIR soon my chance at UCLA might slip away.

Also, did anyone receive any paper mail yet from any of the schools you’ve been accepted too?

Anyone know how rigorous the courses are for computer science at UCLA? I’m not particularly concerned, but at the moment data structures coding assignments are getting a bit difficult. I can see the overall picture of what each assignment is doing, but actual implementation takes a lot more thinking to do.

Hello, I was an out of state transfer and I go to local Texas community college, majoring in Chemical Engineering. I had around 70 hours of credit and 3.9 GPA at the time I applied. Had a 3.8 when I did the update for the application. I was rejected a couple of days ago. I do not know if my classes just didn’t meet the requirement or transfer properly, but I have taken two english comp courses, plus a lit class, calc1-3, Diff EQ, Eng Phys 1 and 2, Gen Chem 1 and 2, O Chem 1 and 2, cell/molec. Bio, and any other basics I needed. Congrats to you guys who got in!

I got in to Chemical Engineering at UT Austin and am very thrilled to be starting there in the fall :slight_smile: Plus I don’t think I would be able to afford UCLA since I am OOS and I know cost of living there is super expensive as well. I think it worked out for the best for me in the end. Again, congrats to everyone :)

@sunfulgirl I thought about it, but from what I’ve heard the program is generally not worth it.

@jonjon, submitting your SIR early doesn’t really have any advantages to my knowledge. You get to set up your email though. Housing is based on lottery so it doesn’t matter how soon you submit that either. So long as it’s in before the deadline. If you aren’t 100% sure about UCLA there’s no reason to SIR yet.

Not sure about the rigor of UCLA CS but if you got in you should be fine.

I’ve been lurking in this thread for quite some time now and I figured I’d post something.

@castro, have you asked any of your anthro professors what school they would pick? Both of mine said UCLA.

Do you guys think it would be easier to get into grad school if you went to that same school for undergrad?

@sunfulgirl‌ I am seriously considering for the College Honors program. It seems we are supposed to get 35 more credits for M.A. What’s your major?

@onehandedred‌

I’ve heard that it’s actually harder to get into a graduate school if you went there for undergrad.

Does anyone here plan on living off campus and have recommendations for what neighborhoods to look into? I don’t know much about LA. I don’t necessarily need to live right by the campus, but I also don’t want to sit in traffic for 2 hours to get to school. Thoughts?

Congrats to everyone!!!
I’m still in shock! I’ve been celebrating all weekend lol
Are there any transfers who are applying for housing & are choosing the ‘theme housing for transfers’?

@Cayton Thanks man, I’ve also found similar things in other threads. My goal for grad school is Berkeley, so maybe I should commit to UCLA soon. I do have a history professor that I’m familar with at UCB so I do have some departmental connections and that’d be more useful for grad school I suppose.

@Zalrons Thanks for your reply^^ Somewhat glad to hear housing goes by lottery to boot too.

@emilynicole83 I read an earlier post or heard it from somewhere else that Culver city might be reasonable. The commute seems doable (10~40 mins, traffic can get ridiculous I believe) and seems like costs might be relatively lower. Northridge and Burbank area might be good areas to consider too. Then again take any info I give with a grain of salt. Personally, I think I want to do off campus apartments for a year. Costs seems reasonable for the area, and a good chance to meet new people. Being next to school can certainly take stress away from worrying about arriving to class on time and/or finding parking. Living conditions won’t be great at first, but once I get acclimated I believe it should be alright.

FYI, for anyone who has yet to receive a decision, I got an email for an admissions officer I met with a while back and she said everything will be out no later than Friday.
