@theGame: what do u mean by
“LUMS>Harvard*MIT” ???
And I need some advice on the following choices:
1)Computer Science at Illinois Wesleyan University (a small private liberal arts college in the US though it is 1st tier, and there is a student teacher ratio of 1:12) that’s giving me a hell lot of scholarship so that my yearly expenditure is less than $10,000.
2)Computer Science from LUMS w/o Financial Aid.

Now my parents have like a total of USD 30k saved for my college. In the above also consider getting into an Ivy for grad school, which would be the better option.

SSE did not email me. I am feel sad… for them. They have no idea what they just lost.

Btw my interview went good if not awesome. I think they rejected me because of my academic records. Afterall, I didnt knew what a transcript is, until I actually got it. Haha! I had a D and two Cs in it.

@joiya
You are being judgemental here. Few of my friends you actually made into LUMS are no better than me (and some worse). My school’s transcript is complicated. They consider too many tests.

just so everyone knows:
people its illegal in the cc world to attribute motives to the moderators for any actions including but not limited to instances where posts are deleted.
Please tread carefully.
It would also be advisable not to have posts deleted for a while

Harvard’s endowment is in billions of dollars while LUMS’ endowment is projected to reach PKR1bn by the end of 2010. That’s where the difference lies. Still, LUMS is doing a great job in educating the elite of Pakistan - just like the Ivy league is doing in USA.

Just because LUMS is in Pakistan it is no where to be found in the top 100. Or perhaps because it does not have a clear purpose (e.g. to teach Social Sciences like LSE). Whatever the case, rankings do not reveal everything; in the case of LUMS, they reveal nothing - nothing at all.

All in all, LUMS is, quite simply, the best thing you can buy while in Pakistan.

looks across the aisle at khan91, nrmcpr and the others

theGame…yes, they might have a world-class faculty, they are making a difference, they might provide awesome education

BUT UNLESS THEY START ANSWERING THE BLOODY PHONE OR BOTHER TO REPLY TO E-MAILS THEY WILL REMAIN WHERE THEY CURRENTLY ARE, i.e Nowhere.
It’s not just about the PR or stuff, this really shows the professionalism of the institution. And currently, it’s pathetic. End of.

Control your anger and try to look at the bigger picture. SSE is just a baby, so treat it as such. Answering calls/emails is a stupid business here because most of the ones received are bogus.

@naminator: From the most vociferous critic of LUMS? Anywayy

Illinois Wesleyan because:

Visa for grad studies will be easier
*Familiarity with US grading/education system
*Illinois Wesleyan known in USA more than LUMS is so admission to Ivy league relatively easier (tho many LUMS grad students go to study in the Ivy league)
*Class size in SSE is like 40-60
*SSE needs a bit of time to establish itself
(Same state from where Obama began his journey :D)

@flibb: Your reasons for going to CMU are pretty sound. Don’t take anyone’s word for it; if you feel so strongly that you need international exposure, experience and excitement, head to CMU in a heartbeat. If things don’t work out well, you can always use a medical certificate to extend your absence from the first few classes of SSE.

Another thing theGame, should I just accept SSE so that in case I dont get a visa? I mean I wont get penalised for accepting their offer and then not going there? Because if I do reject sse and then dont get a visa then I’m in deep **** :P
