Desktops are almost everywhere, there are campus clusters where ever you want to use them…And now i’m stuck b/w macs and PCs (both laptops)…

I disagree. My brother bought a laptop when he went as a freshman. After a semester, he went and bought a Dell desktop pc and now hardly uses a laptop. The whole idea of taking your laptop to classes and taking notes etc is purely limited to a few individuals. I personally prefer a desktop over a notebook. So if you’re used to a desktop I’d advise you to go for one. The whole idea of lugging around ur laptop everywhere isn’t very appealing. Just buy a blackberry or iphone to take any short quick notes, check email while roaming the campus etc. So much more useful.
If you’re still double minded, go for a cheap laptop and try it out for sometime, if it suits your needs just sell it and buy a better one if you want or otherwise just switch to a desktop.

As far as deciding between a Mac and Windows OS, it depends on how much you want to spend. Mac books are more reliable but very expensive so only go for it if you’re sure it’s for you. If you’re not willing to spend alot on a notebook, don’t go for Visa OS, go for XP. Vista takes too much memory and if you don’t have a fast laptop, it’ll just cause problems.

Incl. me and flibb, so we’ll buy one

So the more easier to lose in a bathroom, airport, to a robbery, etc

In addition, new programs are not avalable as freeware on Vistaa

@Hunter: Just testing your mettel ;)

Hey guys check out tablet PCs, they are laptops with touch screens…I kinda like them, won’t they be easier for taking notes? Typing, i won’t say its my thing :)

The reason I like Macs is that they are newer/more advanced than XP and don’t have the vista problems.

Tablet PCs are delicate. As for Macs, if you can afford them, why not? With so much aid, you deserve a good shower :)

Well if you’re that careless you are bound to lose more than a mobile phone :)

If your typing speed isn’t fast enough, do download and use a typing tutor, very useful for typing long essays and assignments in college even if you’d rather use a pen on the tablet pc :)

[YouTube - HP tx1120us Tablet PC Writing Demonstration](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErtqzZ44W2Q) Tablet PCs still need time…I’d suggest you go for a laptop than a tablet PC. And for laptops don’t go for HP

^^joiya, the reason i’ advocate laptops is purely because they’re easy to manage. What if you want to spend a semester abroad at college? which some of us do Do you buy another one just for that semester? Or how about you come back over the summers for vacations?

Plus, space is a precious commodity in most college dorms. And as theGame pointed out, they’re safer to use and keep track of. Using latops just makes more sense. ;)

yea I know that girl. She’s in bani gala and got into MIT, Harvard and a couple others as well on almost full scholarships. And Oxford too. Damn isn’t she lucky

joiya might be right…my perceptions might have been affected by the many promotional videos :)

I don’t think so. Have a closer look at her credentials, and you’ll know whyy

@whazup113

I slam bad… I like that:P…

@Game

What are her credentials?

I know she worked really hard but I was calling her lucky as in shes in an enviable position

i think shes got 12 0r 13 As in O Level and she had 5 at AS. dunno about her SAT scores

No, she didn’t do any O Levels. Instead, took a Russian/Azerbaijani equivalent, topping in 18 or so subjects. However, her English is poor. Most of her A Level she has been contending with it although she still managed to ace Further Mathematics in every exams. In short, a whiz kid - so take no worries home, Zapoo.

At least this is some of my friends at Margalla tell me. If anyone can confirm it, I’d be glad. But 18+ subjects is no ordinary feat. No wonder the nerds at MIT were happy with her app.

p.s. Margalla is attracting international students? Coool

My brother brings his cheap laptop which he bought his first semester whenever he comes here for the summer although he doesn’t use it for any college related stuff. I’m just giving my side of the story that you should probably see what fits you best. Laptops aren’t for everyone, thats all. You can buy a cheap laptop~600$ and buy a desktop ~800$ instead of going for a laptop over 1300$. You can get a high end desktop for 800 and a decent laptop for like 600-700$. That way you can do ur main stuff on the desktop and do daily on the laptop. My brother’s laptop had a hard drive failure after a month(I’d advise you not to get an HP) so he had to wait 3 months for HP to send a new hard disk…free of course but his time was wasted. So now his main thing is the desktop while whenever he goes out of city(once a month) over to his friends he takes his laptop.

Whoever was asking, for laptop/computer stuff, go to College Life section of CC. Many college students post there. They’ll give you some nice advise!

Some nasty dose them Aussies handed to us. huh…

@joiya550

You can get laptops cheaper than $600… one of my friends got one for $425…
