The official Pakistani Thread for the class of 2013

yeah only seven or eight of us…not too hard to get a crown

When were Aga Khan test results supposed to come out btw?

I’m thinking despite the whole admission stuff, I’d be doing well if I were to burn mine =)

a levels, is amazingly EVIL! (or maybe that’s just the 3 months of missed school and further 2 months of bunked classes talking) =/

I’ve heard Aga khan results coming on the 7th of May, I might be wrong but that’s what I’ve heard. And as far as GIKI vs Lums goes, I’d go to SSE even if GIKI was 10x better than SSE in rankings or whatever. I want a good experience for my college and it’s what you do in college, your grades, not the rankings which ultimately gets you a good job or whatever you want to do.

^^ plus I highly doubt LUMS placement office staff would be killing honey-bees when it comes to SSE, and GIKI students aren’t the most interesting people to meet

@ Super_leader
I think everyone here has been to GIKI. Its boring, (almost) guys-only, in the middle of nowhere, an over-sized campus (keep in mind that you’ll have to walk A LOT!), but at the end of the day, you graduate with a nice degree. It depends on what you want!

@ Joiya 550
Agreed! As far as I know, no matter which university you attend in Pakistan, you definitely need a Post-grad degree to get a good placement. Even if you’re looking at the job as a “working experience” of say, 2-3 years, it won’t matter if its some elite company or not.

Ok so heres something new for the Laptop Vs Desktop discussion. My dad will buy me a laptop since it is crucial for group studies etc. since EE is more laptop friendly. BUT I’ll also go for a desktop for projects I have to work on alone etc and for general use i.e gaming, printing assignments etc. I’ll borrow some money from my brother for that or something tho.

Which laptop…? And good luck paying off the interest from your debt :)

colleges have computer labs in their residence halls no?

so if you don’t mind doing projects in a lab surrounded by other people (probably too engrossed in whatever they’re doing to pay you any heed), I doubt it should be a problem to use the desktops there.

also, gaming’s always a lot more fun when done in a room full of people… cuz eventually someone or the other in the same room joins up, and then you can pwn them =P

oh, super_leader, did you receive a snail mail from LUMS SSE, or just electronic notification?

Nah my gaming is basically with a team which is spread out from USA to UK to Pakistan so its all online gaming with a mic :D

What’s your CS nick, Mr Globalisation?

^ LOL.

Guys, I was wondering. There is this issue of Halal Food. Will you concerned about food stuff there? I am confused about this, how can we work this out? Any suggestions.

We can eat Kosher food. Kosher is available at most colleges, so no worries.

Pardon, but where did you decide to go talha?

whats up guys…

@ khan91.
BYU. (Provo, UT) The only place where I got accepted. :stuck_out_tongue:
Kosher food,

Okay, I see.

@ sniper.
Nothing much, you tell?

I used to play CS on Steam but not anymore. Now its mostly DOTA, a part of Warcraft III.

Whenever I go I eat beef, chicken and mutton whether it’s BurgerKing or Mexican. Doesn’t really matter to me since they’re Ahlay Kitaab. If we’re allowed to marry them, we’re allowed to eat their cooked food aswell as long as it isn’t Haram such as pig etc. Although some places do have a vegetarian menu and theres always fish if you don’t believe in eating their cooked meat. RPI has a whole Halal menu made especially for Muslims. Just check to see whether they have one where you’re going.

erm… I know that in University of Chicago, they’ve got Halal food three times a week… the rest of the time I’ll just eat kosher I guess… But truth be told, the only difference is our kassai says bismillah before slitting the animal’s throats… so if you say it before eating said animal, the general purpose is fulfilled (or so I think)…

Also, this was a bigger issue in olden days, especially with chicken, cuz “Halal” meat was supposed to be bled dry after being slaughtered while the rest of the world just axed off the head and got-a-cookin’… nowadays almost all sanitary meat farmers prefer to bleed the animal dry (the blood’s good for their soil, and it just seems more “humane” to them for some reason)…

Hope this helps,… If not, all cheese pizza it is!! =)

To each his own version of Islam but I may point out that

*Muslim males can marry Non-Muslim females BUT
*Muslim females cannot marry Non-Muslim males

Now the West may call it a repression of human rights, oppression of women, etc but a rule is a rule. Tow the line or embrace hell - quite simple, really.

And btw, males are strongly discouraged to marry Non-Muslim females. They may use it as a last resort, but even a Muslim “Laundiy” is considered more respectable than a Non-Muslim female. So tread carefully, boyss

Honestly, I’d hate to live off cheese pizza and vegetables. The Ahlay Kitaab thing is pretty logical. I’ll get it confirmed from some higher source, just as a reassurance. By the way, thanks for the input guys. Really appreciate this… :)

I have another question, I got scholarship at BYU and now, I have to write a Letter of Appreciation. The uni is saying that these “letters” will be forwarded to donors. So, I wanna get some opinions on this, I don’t wanna do it and get it over with since it kinda means a lot to me. :p

Frankly, is there any online resource of sample Letters of Appreciation? Just making this easy. :D
