@rahimahs: I just came across your post. Very helpful indeed! It verified many of the things I thought I knew. Thanks! :)

On a different note, I have decided to start taking cooking classes to prep for vacations in Stateside when the dining halls will be closed. Do you think it’s a good idea? Can you suggest the dishes I should learn?

I beg to differ. I see no point for several magazines to waste so much money on research and publishing of rankings every single year if the rankings didn’t matter. Ofcourse they matter to people that’s why the magazines and other sources care to publish them. The idea that they don’t matter **** is kinda absurd. Yes, they don’t matter everything but you cannnot and should not reject their importance entirely. To add something to this, rankings fluctuate alot and personally i wouldnt be too concerned about chosing #8 over #2.

Morever, rankings give you some sort of idea where the university stands; not an entirely accurate but ofcourse helpful to distinguish where Boston University stands compared to NYU.

This is completely irrelivent from the case of Liberal Arts. You see, both these universities offer unique experiences to their students. On the other hand, Liberal Arts are somewhat similar in atmosphere, curriculum, etc etc. So, there is no point of getting stuck on ranking in the case of LACs! IMO!
