Rejected stanford :p

who got into dartmouth from kgs? Does anyone know their name?

No clue…umm…

I think its totally unfair to give admissions based on essays!! I mean especially here you can ask anyone to write dem up for you, loadz of people i know got in wid their friendz/parents etc wrote their essays, i mean how fair is dat???
Really…and im down nw…so many rejections and waitlists…it IS depressing! I know its best for me and was meant to be all along, but after workin so hard i do feel bloody ughh…:"(

Guys, i know this might seem ridiculous and ‘showy’, but i’m facing a real dilemna. I’ve been accepted to Lafayette and HKUST and i cant decide. I literally have a change of heart 8 times each day.

So i need you people’s advice. no one at my school has ever undergone the US college admission application process. Hence the teachers/counsellors have no idea. None of my class-fellows applied, so this is the only place where i can discuss this. I NEED HELP!

Finances will play a part. At lafayette, it’ll cost me 40-45K for my undergrad degree. At HKUST, it’ll be around 25K. Now, by no means am i living from hand to mouth, but similarly i’m certainly not rolling cash. If i really want to go to Lafa, my parents are prepared to stump up the cash.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK!?

@ Khan: I would take Lafayette any day.

^Understand his dilemma. He doesn’t want to be a burden but at the same time wants a solid education. Tough choice.

@theGame, you hit the nail on the head bro. This is the thing which i’m most unsure about: Is spending the extra 20K on lafayette worth it in the long run, career-wise specifically?

What with all the financial crisis looming in the US. And Hong Kong/China tipped to be the next big thing.

Edit: Please be kind as to mention a specific reason as well. I could really use some advice. Thanks!

^For a better response, why don’t you post it as a thread in the international forum as well as the lafayette forum. That will draw responses from real students with real practical insides.

Khan91, get in touch with some Lafa and HKUST students. Take their opinions on all the dilemmas you’re facing. First hand experiences really help in understanding the situation… It certainly has helped me alot! :)

IMO, HKUST will be better for career-prospect. Just an opinion!

The China Challenge is all media hype. China isn’t going to overtake the US anytime soon. IF - remember, it’s a big IF - China grows by 10-12% annually for the next 20yrs, it will be able to have a greater GDP than USA by the end of the 20th year. Now that’s such a long time. And without the Gwadar port, there’s not much hope. Even if it happens, economic development might take years to catch up. For non-students of Economics, suffice it to say that economic development categorizes countries into 1st world, 2nd world, etc while economic growth increases govt tax revenue, exports and consumption - generating opportunities for economic development. Any way you look at it, China has a long time to wait - much longer, if I am not mistaken, than you will have to for your phD. So fret not, bro. America is game

@theGame. really appreciate the response. But my main concern is about the job market and the relative ‘appeals’ of a HKUST or Lafayette graduate. In a nutshell, where do you think my career prospects will be best served/enhanced.

thanks again!. Oh and i’m looking specifically for response from Paksitanis because i guess you people can best relate to my situation, rather than say some European/american student.

Are you coming back to Pakistan? If so, I don’t think a degree from either Lafayette or HKUST will set you apart from the LUMS crowd. Seriously. If a good job is all you want, then LUMS is the best choice there can be.

^ I have pretty much da same concern…jobs…i read somewhere k its becoming increasingly difficult for intl students to get work permits there…so if i have to come back to pakistan anyway, would going abroad(colgate) be worth the trouble? :s
