You should see the Nepali thread (I’m sure you’ve done) for LAC craziness…Everyone from Nepal applies to LACs. People applying to NUs are so rare…There is one big reason behind it. Coming from a country with a PCI of hardly $500, most Nepali students can hardly afford 1k-2k annually for their studies. And LACs are sooooo kind with their financial aid that everyone chooses to apply to them. 98% students going to prestigious LACs in the US go on almost full aid. :)

very true about LACs being generous with international financial aid. it’s good that you guys are taking advantage of this opportunity. a lot of people at my school who need FA don’t bother to research and consequently think that only HYP-type Universities give aid to internationals.

In 2006, the concerns were evident, even as President Pervez Musharraf was still riding towards his non-rendezvous with a Nobel Peace prize. There is ample evidence that Pakistan is turning a decisive corner, that the original idea of a moderate, reasonably secular and competitive state is out of reach, and that some other kind of Pakistan will emerge. While not entirely giving up on the reconstruction of the Jinnah’s moderate version of Pakistan, it now seems unlikely.[3] Some Pakistanis are now deeply pessimistic about their country.

anyways, last post for today. to those who are curious about what it takes to get into MIT as an international, i found this:

Olevels: AA (subjects not offered in IGCSE)

I’ve done significant work (in fact, as much as I’ve done in my academics ) in leadership/organizing, debating, math and science olympiads, basketball, henna designing, community service and in being a crazy MIT fan during my high school career. 

@mushoo: I did not apply to Caltech, but Congratulations! I’m sure you will thrive there. And yes, I will most definitely look out for those hacking opportunities once we are there inshAllah. =]
