The official Pakistani Thread for the class of 2015

I was just wondering what is meant by the weighted GPA ? I mean what is the diff b/w the weighted and the unweighted GPA

^ a weighted gpa is calculated only if your H.S. offers classes at different levels of difficulty, for instance AP and regular. in a weighted GPA calculation, an A in an AP class would be worth more in terms of your GPA than an A in a regular class, but in unweighted terms the two grades would remain equal. thus, you’ll often see the following:

Weighted: 4.25
Unweighted: 4.00

@paki i doubt that’s Stern. Stern i believe releases all its decisions collectively. People i know who got into NYU are all in the College of Arts and Sciences.

yeah, that’s what i thought. s2, did you apply?

^^ahan I see . .thanks for clearing that out pakipower … any idea if an AS level or O level is considered more difficult than an AP ?

Yeah i applied to Stern. One of my top realistic choices so i really hope i get in.

speedyz, nope. A-levels, IB and AP are all considered to be equal. however, fulfilling the H.S. requirements colleges have can be more difficult in A-levels than the other two (just because of the unstructured nature of the program), so you might get some leniency in that regard.

i actually feel the same way about Stern. reach, but realistic. some of the people i’ve spoken to got in with some pretty average stats though, so that’s made me slightly more optimistic about my chances too.
did you apply to MSB @ Georgetown?

Ahan I see…

Nope. Non-CommonApp colleges are a pain to apply to.

and what about O levels courses… how are they compared to AP’s … because we usually take around 3-4 A levels after having taken some 8-9 o levels but correct me If I am wrong the US students only give AP’s… that is why they usually have so many ? Like over 10 ? Because giving 10 A levels is just not that easy at all

^^ haha, it’s actually not that bad. the deadline was fairly lenient too.

speedyz, they’re two very different H.S. programs. O levels for American colleges matter in the sense that they allow you to fulfill general H.S. requirements (two years of foreign language, science, history etc.). that is why 10 IGCSEs (international O levels) are usually required before starting the IB (considered a better equivalent of the A level). they’re easy so you can take a lot and get all your requirements fulfilled early. btw, i know people who are studying for 7 and 8 A levels right now. it’s really not all that hard even at the A level.

lol, typing on my phone makes me sound ridiculously incoherent.

basically, know that your program is different, and colleges know that. they won’t expect you to have studied that many A-levels, especially if you’re taking a ‘most rigorous’ course-load and have all their requirements fulfilled.

ok  … thanks

so. bored. right. now.

watch American Idol

it’s terrible this season. i’m watching Jersey Shore right now. lol.

so, apparently the families of those two guys that Davis killed received houses in NY and DC, along with a ton of money and a green card each. jackpot? ;)

I agree… ****tiest season ever but still its ok for timepass

lol, i miss Simon.
